The Cumberland Street Residence
Perks for the Parents
A colorful London townhouse nestled in the unassuming streets of Pimlico, nestled between Sloane Square and Victoria. It sleeps 8. This is a great location for visiting the city: you can walk to Sloane Square and the Saatchi Gallery in 15-20 minutes, or stick to the wonderful eateries in the Ebury area (10 minutes’ walk) - try The Orange or The Thomas Cubitt for an elegant take on the London pub experience. The house itself feels sophisticated yet eccentric, with a wonderful color palette and one-of-a-kind interiors to match the traditional London setting.
Why Kids Love it
While it doesn’t come with toys or books for little kids, this playful and colorful house feels welcoming and fun for families, and there are lots for kids to do in the local area. One of Chelsea’s top spots for kids is the National Army Museum, which (unusually) has a great soft play area for younger kids in the basement. Kids will also love visiting the beautiful pink cake parlor Peggy Porschen in Belgravia, for an afternoon treat (12 minutes’ walk). Further afield, you can walk over the river (15 minutes) for access to Battersea Park, one of the city’s best parks for kids, as well as the new Battersea Power Station.
Things to Know
No smoking, pets or parties. Please note, this house is spread over 3 floors (with half floors) and there is no elevator. There are stairs up to the entrance level (which is one floor up from street level). Ask the hosts if you require a high chair or travel crib, transfers and more - it's managed by a professional hosting agency. The nearest tube stations are Pimlico or Victoria (both 10 minutes’ walk) and the overground at Victoria will connect you to Gatwick airport and the south coast. Heathrow airport is around one hour away by car or train.
About the Location
The house is located in Pimlico, a quiet neighborhood set between Victoria and Sloane Square. It’s 10 minutes’ walk to the ‘Ebury Streets’: this elegant area is home to great gastropubs, antique stores and design shops, as well as linking up to the beautiful streets of Belgravia. In the other direction, Pimlico has its own main street (5 minutes’ walk) with practical amenities such as supermarkets, public library and vintage stores. You can also reach the Thames in 10 minutes for riverside walks up to Tate Britain (15-20 minutes away).
Accommodation Details
The house has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, set over 3 floors. On the main level, you’ll find the kitchen, living/dining room, balcony at the front and roof terrace at the back. Up again to the next floor there are 2 bedrooms (1 double and a primary kingsize bedroom) and a bathroom with a tub. On the top floor, there are 2 more bedrooms (1 double, 1 kingsize), plus a bathroom with a walk-in shower.
Style Notes
Color wonder. The enchanting colour combinations are courtesy of a collaboration with Edward Bulmer Paints, That Rebel House and Rock the Heirloom and their commitment to a natural, eco-friendly approach to interior styling. Each room has its own unique design imprint with vintage and antique pieces adding interest to the aesthetic throughout. We love the traditional fireplace in the living room, double-height ceilings in the primary bedroom and the beautiful painted closets upstairs.
