Perks for the Parents

A family-friendly villa in picturesque Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with two shared community pools (1 lap pool and 1 multi-level pool geared towards kids) and a white sand beach just steps away. It sleeps 6. Parents will love the spacious balconies and outdoor spaces here - perfect for enjoying the balmy sea breeze and a cocktail or two. The house is set in an old coconut plantation, in a quiet and remote part of the country that remains unspoilt by crowds. Take the short walk to the tropical gardens to a pristine beach with tropical palm trees, or try a spot of kayaking on the waves or adjacent to the estuary. There’s also a daily cleaner and a cook who makes delicious local fresh food for children and adults alike, available for an additional fee, so you can set up a totally hassle-free vacation.

Why Kids Love it

It’s easy for little ones to walk to the beach, which is quiet and calm. From August to October, sea turtles lay their eggs here and guests can help the turtle camp gather eggs from nests. From November to January, the group allows local guests to release baby turtles into the ocean. One of the shared pools has 2 shallow ends and is great for young swimmers (although adult supervision is required). The TV has Netflix. Parents should be advised to bring their own card games, art supplies, books etc. Beach toys, boogie boards, buckets and spades, and everything needed for the beach is provided. High chair and Pack 'n' Play also provided.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights, bookable Saturday-Saturday only. For stays over Christmas and New Year, to combine the holidays will require a 12-night minimum stay. The residence is in a remote area of coastal Mexico which appeals to a more adventurous family traveler. Younger children will need supervision: there are two ungated pools, ungated steps and the ocean is on the doorstep. The cook (optional but highly recommended) costs $20-35/day for adults, $10-15 for kids, including all food costs. You can choose no days, all days or anything in between. The primary grocery stores - Costco, Walmart and Mega - are in Puerto Vallarta; the staff can shop for fresh local goods for you nearby. Provisions provided otherwise are basic. Phone and WiFi can be intermittent. There is kayak and SUP hire on the property and plenty of space for parking.

About the Location

The property is 2 hours north of Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, with an optional shuttle service. Car hire can be arranged and there is parking, but it is not strictly necessary. It is set in a coconut grove with a quiet, secluded beach a short walk away and there is very little nearby by way of nightlife, tourism and restaurants. Nearby activities include the beach, kayaking, boogie boarding, horseback riding and wildlife watching. Puerto Vallarta is the closest major town and is approximately a 2 hours' drive away. Breaking up the journey with a visit to Punta Mita or Sayulita is a good option.

Accommodation Details

The residence has 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, set over 2 floors. Two bedrooms have kingsize beds, the third room has a queensize bed. The family bathroom has a bathtub.

Style Notes

Tropical paradise. This beach-side home is filled with exotic touches to reference its blissful location. Lush green palm trees and gardens frame the house, with colorful blues, greens and purples used as the interior palette. Large windows allow lots of sunlight in, creating a bright and sunny setting. We love the glass brick tiles in the bathroom, the outstanding wrap-around upstairs balcony and the grand pillars framing the downstairs terrace.

Where to begin... My wife and I live in Seattle and stumbled upon a small, new beach community 2.5 hours north of Puerto Vallarta called, Playa Las Tortugas. We purchased a house there and started managing rentals for a number of the other homes. It's been a great excuse to need to take "business trips" down to the beach with our 5-year-old to check in on things. Kid and Coe is a wonderful platform and always sends us the best guests. We love taking care of families with kids as we know (first hand) how wonderful it can be to take a vacation when all the little details have been considered and worked out! Hit us up if you want a great trip to a tropical paradise...it'll be an adventure you'll remember! :-)

Playa las Tortugas, Riviera Nayarit

Mangroves, coconuts and turtles

Turtle Beach is a beautiful 8-mile long stretch of golden sand on the coast of Nayarit, around 2.5 hours from Puerto Vallarta. Home to endangered sea turtles, it is unspoilt and pristine, with protected mangrove estuaries, former coconut plantations and quiet coastal communities. A local wildlife protection organization can brief the kids on turtle conservation, and you can play on the beach for much of the day without seeing a single soul beyond the local wildlife.
