This Portland residence sleeping up to 7 is ideal for those that love being in the middle of everything the city has to offer. Situated on the lower level of a house, it can be rented by itself or with the upstairs unit for larger groups. True to Oregon’s crunchy nature, the home was built with sustainable materials. The same thoughtful consideration of design extends to the interior, too. You’ll appreciate artful touches like exposed brick walls and funky light fixtures throughout. Spend time barbecuing on the patio or enjoy a glass of wine long after the children are in bed. The house is located on Alberta Street; known as one of Portland’s most vibrant neighborhoods, close to galleries and shops. There is plenty for kids, including a Bugaboo Bee for younger guests.

What we love

  • Two uncluttered bedrooms with queen beds and a third bedroom with 2 twin beds; there’s also a futon mattress sleeping 1
  • Well equipped kitchen with coffee machine, blender and an island that seats 2
  • Open floor plan with a spacious living room, kitchen and dining area that seats 6
  • Lounge with blue couches and retro-style chairs

We had a wonderful stay at this property! The home was so modern and comfortable, and the hosts made us feel so welcome. They provided local coffee, chocolate, and popcorn, as well as helpful materials to get the most out of our stay. The location could NOT be beat- amazing restaurants, a bookstore, co-op, wine shop, funky vintage and art shops, and bakeries too. The house was very clean, the linens and beds were plush and comfy, and our kids LOVED the little vinettes in each window well. High marks!

We stayed at the Alberta Street Residence during a recent trip to Portland with our two kids (5 and 1) and my parents. The location was so amazing - 15 minutes by car to pretty much anywhere you'd want to go in Portland, right by a great park for running and play, and on a street with so much great stuff, like Salt & Straw ice cream, Bamboo Sushi, and the Alberta Street Co-op. The house was also lovely - plenty of room to spread out for three generations, a cute play area for kids outside, and the folks renting upstairs were super nice as well. We loved the book our hosts left that detailed the restoration of the house, and the house itself is so lovely and thoughtful. The teeniest tiniest quibble was that it didn't seem like too many babies had stayed there recently and the baby stuff was gathering dust in the laundry room. We arrived late at night and the pack and play sheet was too dusty to use without laundering first. But we put a swaddle blanket over the mattress and made do until the next morning! Overall, highly recommended - we would stay there again in a heartbeat and recommend to any friend!

This is a fantastic accommodation for families with small kids at a fantastic location. We have rented several vacation houses over the years, and none have been so satisfying as Low Gear (residence no. 2). Even though the rental is located right on Alberta, the apartment was quiet and the patio felt protected from the street. The downside of the creative play area is that a number of people walked in off the street during our stay, most were friendly and just curious though. Therefore it's not an outdoor space to leave kids unattended.
