Surrounded by rolling fields and sublime mountain scenery, this rustic residence offers up plenty of peace and privacy alongside the views. With 4 roomy bedrooms, there’s enough space for large family groups, or those bringing a nanny. The sociable kitchen area is kitted out with everything needed for relaxed at-home dining, while the BBQ terrace comes with alfresco dining and garden views - ideal for enjoying a leisurely lunch while the kids play. The outdoor pool is covered for extra peace of mind and is the perfect place to cool off after a morning’s walk or cycle. The hosts are happy to help arrange local bike hire or horse trekking, as well as tours of local vineyards with wine tasting. For those looking to add some sand and surf to their vacation, the quiet beaches or Portugal’s north coast are easily accessible by car.

Kids can run free at this peaceful country home with plenty of outdoor space for playing games and picnicking, and a private pool for splash-filled fun. For downtime, there are toys, books and a flatscreen TV for movie nights or catching up with a latest series. Bedrooms have been designed with kids in mind and are full of playful touches to make them feel at home, including a tipi tent and cushions for making their own den. Mini adventurers will love exploring the local nature trails with cows, sheep and endangered wild horses roaming the area. There are walking and cycling trails to suit most age groups and crystal clear wild swim pools for little paddlers and those brave enough to dive in. Water babies will also enjoy the nearby coast with sandy beaches and all types of surfing on offer; the hosts are happy to arrange local surf lessons. A crib and a highchair can be provided on request.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights in summer (July – August); 2 nights in low season. The house is available all year round with air conditioning and a working fireplace available to ensure comfort whatever the season. The hosts have 2 young children and so the house is well set up for kids with a cover on the pool and toys, kids’ dinner ware and a travel crib provided on request. There is WiFi throughout the property and a washing machine. Parking is available at the residence and car hire is recommended due to the remote location. Pets may be permitted on request, for an additional fee of 50EUR.

About the Location

The residence is set in the mountainous Serra de Arga region in northern Portugal, famous for its breathtaking views, waterfall fed pools and wild Garrano horses that roam the area. The closest local village is Arga de Cima, with a local taverna at nearby Arga de Baixo and a supermarket 20 minutes’ drive away. The hosts can help arrange for horse riding excursions from local stables or local vineyard tours. The closest beaches are Âncora and Moledo beaches, both around a 30-minute drive with a variety of water sports and walking trails on offer. The closest international airport is the Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport near Porto, just over an hour’s drive away.

Accommodation Details

The residence has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms set over 2 floors. The main entrance opens onto an open plan living/dining/kitchen area. The living space occupies one side with 2 sofas and coffee tables congregated around a built-in fireplace, and a flat screen TV. On the other side is a fully equipped kitchen space with a coffee machine, dishwasher and a kitchen island seating 2 on bars stools. Just behind is a dining table seating 8. There is a bedroom downstairs with a double bed and wardrobe, and a separate shower room. There are 3 further bedrooms – the primary is upstairs with a double bed, wardrobe and an ensuite bathroom with a bathtub. There’s a second bedroom with a double bed and a kids’ bedroom with a double bed and a trundle bed. They share a family bathroom. Outside there’s a garden terrace with a BBQ and an alfresco dining table seating 8, a lawned area beyond and a raised sundeck with deckchairs and an outdoor pool.

Style Notes

Modern rustic. A traditional stone-clad residence that preserves all the character of its period past while showcasing contemporary country style throughout its interiors. Flagstone floors, wooden beams and feature stone walls are combined with light whitewashed walls, metro tiles and chic wooden planks to create a comfortable but charming space. Eclectic furnishings blend family finds with pieces made by local artisans such as the large dining room table while playful, modern design adds playfulness. Jute rugs, textiles and log piles lend themselves to the cooler seasons while picture windows and French style doors bring in the views all year round. We love the swimming pool and sundeck surrounded by green meadows and majestic peaks - the perfect place to unwind in nature.

Payment policy
When a host accepts your booking, we will automatically charge your card 30% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance if the check in date is more than 6 weeks away. We will send you a balance payment reminder at 6 weeks before check in and you will be required to submit your payment to finalise your reservation. If a host accepts your booking and the check in date is 6 weeks away or less, we will charge your card 100% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance.
Cancellation policy
For cancellations notified up to 6 weeks before the check in date, guests will receive a refund of any amount paid less 10% of the total cost of the booking. For cancellations notified at 6 weeks or less before the check in date, no refunds are given unless the host agrees. If a host does agree to a full or partial refund, this amount will be returned to the guest less 10% of the total cost of the booking. Some hosts will also allow a stay to be rescheduled. Guests should contact their host for further information regarding any request to change the dates of a stay.
