Perks for the Parents

This historic family apartment in the heart of Lisbon has sensational views from its glamorous roof deck, plus a plunge pool, and is decorated with flair and contemporary style. Set up with a showpiece upper terrace, linked to the dining room and lounge, it has a large kitchen and 3 bedrooms in total. The location makes a stay in the city easy - everything is within walking distance. A 5-minute walk takes you to botanical gardens and a Saturday farmer’s market; the apartment is also walking distance to the city’s best restaurants, stores and art galleries.

Why Kids Love it

They may not be awed by the view, but kids will love the small, heated plunge pool on the rooftop terrace. Kids of all ages are welcome - it’s easy to cook in with a family kitchen and dining area, and items including a crib, high chair and toys can be provided. One of the bathrooms has a soaking tub ideal for bath time. The neighborhood has some gorgeous gardens, one of the best lookouts in the city (Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara), and some seriously pretty homes. Kids will love the funicular a short walk away.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. The flat is safe and secure on the 3th (top) floor of a historic and protected building with no elevator. There is no private parking space, but there are private car parks in the area. Young children will need supervision on the rooftop deck and around the fireplace and plunge pool. Car rental not essential for this location, where there is limited parking and from where much of the city is walkable. Please request kids items in advance.

About the Location

The residence is in the Princípe Real area of central Lisbon. It’s a great area for shopping, with antique shops, bars, gardens and a quieter, more luxurious feel than its direct neighbor, lively Bairro Alto. The nearby Jardim do Príncipe Real has an organic farmer’s market and market stalls on Saturdays selling antique pins and jewelry . There are also 2 kiosks where you can grab a quick bite, and a full restaurant - all of which are very fairly priced. The city’s airport is a 25-minute drive away.

Accommodation Details

This 200 sqm home is set at the top of a historic XVIII century palace building and is over 1 floor. It includes a large open-plan lounge-diner and a separate eat-in kitchen, plus a private roof terrace with views of Lisbon. The apartment has 3 bedrooms: 1 with an incredible view, a fireplace and a fantastic bathroom, the biggest one with an ensuite bathroom and a beautiful bookcase, and the smallest one with a closet. All bedrooms have a kingsize bed. Of the apartment’s 3 bathrooms, 1 has a soaking tub.

Style Notes

Modern and sophisticated. This gorgeous penthouse apartment is set apart from others in the city with its historic building and contemporary fixtures throughout. Recently renovated by a noted Portuguese architect, the apartment is decorated with Italian furniture, some art pieces and has scenic views of the river, city, Christ and bridge. We love the living space, open to a roof terrace with fabulous views and a perfect plunge pool, the mid century-style dining area and the sleek and modern feel throughout.

The fascination for houses and the art of welcoming people has been our daily life exchange since we met. We can’t avoid it, we just enjoy it too much! The quality of an experience, for us, is measured by details and that’s what we try to achieve, always, the fulfillment of our guests’ subtleties. Michael has been a designer all his life so he has now the role of graphic designer, aesthetic and communication’s director. I have had an education and professional background linked to project management which means our profiles complement each other and make the team work in harmony. We have at the moment houses in Alentejo, Montes da Ronha and a special one in Lisbon, LX 360. We are also parents of two little ones who make us proud everyday, a little boy of 5 years old and a little girl of 1 year old. Be very welcome!

This was everything advertised and more. The hosts were very helpful with both our travel plans and recommendations for the local area. Check-in was as easy as it could be. The property is spacious, clean and modern. Everything was in good working order. The space allowed for more flexibility and comfort. Our favorite spot was the family room and adjacent balcony. Ample area for all to be together and enjoy the views or a meal. The view from the balcony offered great sunsets as well as probably one of the bests views of the New Years fireworks. The property is located in a quiet area and is close to shops, restaurants and transportation. We were able to walk to many places, used Uber when the walk was greater The building has a lot of character and the modernization respected that. There is no elevator which was not a problem for us but something to be aware of if traveling with a lot of luggage. The person checking us in did help carry luggage upstairs although it was not necessary. If we return to Lisbon we would definitely look to stay at this location again

We had an amazing couple of nights here with our children (11 and 13) - perfectly located, well equipped and super comfortable. Oh - and what a view! We felt well looked after.

We loved it! Michael and Ana were great hosts and it was the perfect spot for six adults and one very active fourteen month old. The pictures do not do it justice. Beautiful views of city, great space and centrally located for everything - either a short walk or quick Uber ride away. Could not have been more pleased with our choice and stay. Would highly recommend it. The only thing to be cautious of - there are a lot of stairs, but it is a wonderful modern apartment in a beautiful old building. Thank you!

Príncipe Real, Lisbon

Welcoming gardens and rooftop views

One of the lushest and most beautiful parts of Lisbon, Principe Real is all shaded gardens, pavement cafés and historic streets. It’s an authentic part of the city where the kids will enjoy playing with local children in the playground at the Principe Real Garden and riding the funicular down to Bairro Alto.
