A chic Provencal farmhouse, recently renovated to blend its period character with contemporary style, set amongst landscaped mediterranean gardens with a summer kitchen and a heated swimming pool. It sleeps 8. Set on a quiet, peaceful road but under a 10-minute walk away from the restaurants and stores of the local village, this pretty residence provides the best of all worlds. The area is known for its fresh, local ingredients – including olive oil production – with 2 working village presses still in operation. Pick up a bottle, alongside some local wine and cheese for leisurely family dining on the alfresco terrace – or hire an in house chef with the help of the host’s concierge service. For relaxing days at home, there’s plenty of space to unwind with sociable, open plan living areas that open on to the garden for seamless indoor/outdoor living. For large families, or 2 groups travelling together, the bedrooms are split into 2 separate buildings with 2 kingsize bedrooms in main house and 2 in a stylish garden Mazet with their own separate entrances, terrace area and poolside access for ultimate privacy.

Why Kids Love it

The Alpilles region is one big adventure playground for kids with bucketfuls of activities to suit every explorer level. A spacious villa with its own gardens, pool and BBQ area will be the icing on the cake. With plenty of space on the grassy lawn for picnics, games and little crawlers, kids can fully relax. The outdoor pool is heated for splash about fun and temperate swimming year round. Inside spaces are fully air conditioned to provide comfort during the summer months and the spacious living area with its sofa and TV is the perfect chill out zone. The local village is a short walk away with a playground, tennis courts and plenty of bakeries, cafes and restaurants which have plenty of choice for kids. Mini adventurers can explore the local scene further in the foothills of the Alpilles with plenty of hiking and biking trails as well as climbing, canoeing, horse riding and wild swimming. The hosts offer a full concierge service with a range of amenities on offer, including babysitters.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights. The house is available to rent all year round. There is the possibility to rent just 2 of the bedrooms in the off season for a reduced rate; please contact the hosts for more information. Please note that the local tourist tax is not included in the rental. The pool is unfenced (but it does have an alarm) and there are ungated staircases inside so younger ones should be supervised. There is good WiFi throughout and an office space in one of the upstairs bedrooms. Parking is available for 2 cars - car rental is recommended to explore the area. The property is managed by an agency in France who act as a concierge during your stay: they can advise on places to go, local restaurants to try and help arrange shopping deliveries, at-home treatments, housekeeping, babysitting, chef services and equipment rental etc. Sorry, no pets.

About the Location

This residence is located on the outskirts of the Maussane-les-Alpilles in Provence's Vallée des Baux. Maussane is one of the few villages with working olive mills, producing some of the region’s best olive oil. The village center is just under a 10-minute walk with a good selection of shops, bakeries and restaurants. For golf enthusiasts, the Golf des Baux de Provence course is under a 5-minute drive away. The pretty walking trails of Flandrin with spectacular valley views are also a short drive while the wider Alpilles region has plenty of hiking and biking trails as well as gorges with activities for climbers and canoeists. The farmhouse is just over 15 minutes’ drive from the center of Saint-Rémy, one of the most beautiful villages in Provence. Luberon is reachable in 1 hour while the closest beach is Saintes Maries de la Mer around a 50-minute drive. The closest international airport is Marseilles, 55 minutes away; Avignon TGV station is 30 minutes by car.

Accommodation Details

The farmhouse has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, split between a main house with 2 floors and a separate mazet building. On the ground floor beneath the arches of the old part of the main house is a fully equipped kitchen with everything a guest would expect including a dishwasher. A stone doorway leads through to a kitchen island with a sink and bar seating for 3, and a dining area with a table seating 8 just behind. A summer style living room sits alongside with a sofa, chairs and glass doors which open on to the garden. There is a second ‘winter’ living room with a period fireplace and further seating. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms – a primary with a kingsize bed, desk space, an ensuite bathroom with an Italian shower and a private balcony. The second bedroom has a kingsize bed, a bathroom and a mezzanine. The other 2 bedrooms are located in a mazet at the end of the garden – each with their own entrance but joined by a lockable, interconnecting door. One bedroom has a double bed with an ensuite bathroom and a bath tub while the other has a double bed and a shower room. These bedrooms have a private terrace and direct access to the 8 x 3.5m swimming pool. The outdoor space also includes a pool terrace with sun beds, a grassy lawn area, a terrace with alfresco dining for 8, a summer kitchen with a grill, hob and sink and a bicentennial plane mulberry tree which shades a further terrace with a smaller table and chairs.

Style Notes

Mas chic. A recently renovated Provencal Mas – or farmhouse – showcasing plenty of rustic character with its thick stone walls, arch ways and beams preserved, and uplifted by a thoughtful contemporary update. Wooden shutters, pretty balconies and terraces shaded by ancient trees blend seamlessly with modern french doors, chic interiors and a contemporary outdoor pool. Living spaces are white and bright with plenty of skylights and feature windows flooding in the natural light alongside garden views. Feature stone walls in the bedrooms and sublime historic arch work in the kitchen-diner work alongside designer lighting to create a space full of character and sophistication. We love the pretty gardens, beautiful all year round, with their alfresco terraces, lush green lawns, summer kitchen and chic heated pool. The finely renovated mazet buildings add to the stylish scene instilling Provencal hideaway vibes.
