Perks for the Parents

A beautifully-designed period home in between Putney and Wandsworth, with a dedicated playroom, luxury ensuites and a home study. It sleeps 8. Along with the study, there's a useful desk area on the top-floor corridor, so plenty of space for parents who need to work. Underfloor heating in the kitchen is a welcome treat on those chillier mornings, and 2 ovens and a Quooker hot tap make cooking at home an easy option. If you prefer an informal alfresco meal, you can choose the large dining table perched by the patio doors, or an alfresco alternative with a BBQ in the garden.

Why Kids Love it

This house has a great set-up for families, with 2 dedicated children’s rooms on the top floor, filled with books and toys, which sit next to a large playroom, so they can create their own kids-only hangout in the loft away from parents. Downstairs, budding musicians can try out the piano in the living room or run off some steam in the backyard. Head to the river to catch the Thames Clipper boat - the easiest family-friendly way to travel up into the city.

Things to Know

No pets, parties or smoking. The lead guest must be at least 25 years old. All guests will receive a rental agreement prior to their stay which you are required to sign and submit. This home is best suited to 6 adults and 2 children. One of the bedrooms is set up as a playroom and features a double sofa bed that can sleep 2 if used as a guest bedroom. There's a utility room in the basement, equipped with a washing machine and tumble dryer.

About the Location

The house is tucked away on a residential street between leafy Putney and Wandsworth, south west London. Local options include scenic strolls around Putney Common (half an hour on foot) or visits to Wandsworth Park on the Thames, where there is a playground and mini golf course (10 minutes’ walk). Don’t miss a pint at one of the gastro pubs banking the Thames. Putney overground train station is 15 minutes’ walk; East Putney subway station is 7 minutes’ walk. Putney Pier ferry stop at Putney Bridge is 20 minutes away on foot. Heathrow airport is around 45 minutes’ drive or 1 hour by train.

Accommodation Details

The house has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, set over 3 floors. On the main ground level you’ll find an open plan kitchen/dining room at the back, with doors leading to the garden, and a separate living room at the front. Upstairs, there are 2 bedrooms (a primary bedroom with a queensize bed and in-room tub, plus another queenszie guest bedroom) both with ensuite bathrooms, as well as a small study room. On the top floor are 2 more single kids bedrooms (1 with a raised upper bunk bed), a play room with a double sofabed and another bathroom. All 3 bathrooms have bathtubs.

Style Notes

Blue hues. The hosts have chosen a rich blend of beautiful blue tones to decorate the ground floor, creating a contemporary yet calming space. There are plenty of period features to marvel at, from the log-filled fireplace to the classical cornices, yet the house feels modern and spacious, thanks to the newly-renovated kitchen with lots of glass. Luxuriously-large showers and elegant bathrooms create a spa-like feeling upstairs, and the parents in-room tub is not to be missed. We love the romantic botanical wallpaper in the bathroom, the elegant fluted kitchen sink and the triple-window design in the top floor playroom.

Putney and Barnes, London

London's leafiest corner in the South West of the city is known for its charming village feel, green open spaces and riverside walks.

Also the starting point of the famous annual university Boat Race, this affluent area is home to a bustling high street of shops and restaurants, as well as countless sports grounds and the WWT London Wetlands Wildlife center. All this, and yet it's less than half an hour from the heart of the capital.
