While this is the perfect base to explore the region, you’ll find it very hard to leave. The ensuite twin room on the 1st floor opens to the delightful gardens where you’ll spend most of your time – swimming in the heated pool or relaxing in the jacuzzi and sauna. The pool is even heated and available to enjoy in colder months. No need to go back to the house to grab a beer – the summer kitchen has all you need and there’s a BBQ to for cooking up some of the excellent local fare.

Why Kids Love it

Kids will love the gardens where they will be free to explore. The pool is gated and covered so parents can relax. Two of the bedrooms can be made into twin rooms for kids and all bedrooms are air conditioned to ensure a good night’s sleep in summer months. When you’re ready to explore, hop on the 6 adult and 2 children’s mountain bikes to discover the area’s scenic bike routes and quiet beauty. Several local farms have cheese-making demonstrations, olive oil tastings and horse-riding. Or sign the kiddos up for a local cooking class where they can learn to make pizza and pasta, Tuscan-style.

About the Location

This villa is in the commune of Radda in Chianti in the heart of Tuscany’s wine region. The town of Radda is about 15 minutes’ drive and has a walled medieval town. The old castle, Castello di Volpaia, has been converted into a winery where you can tour and taste some of Chianti’s finest wines. Radda is also known for its traditional Tuscan cuisine including pappardelle pasta with wild boar sauce and bistecca alla fiorentina (a thick-cut T-bone steak). The villa is an ideal spot for day trips to the cultural trinity of Florence (1 hour by car), Siena (50 mins) and San Gimignano (1 hour) where you can drink coffee in the squares like a local, catch a summer festival, gaze at incredible architecture, and check out world-class museums and galleries.

Accommodation Details

This Tuscan villa has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms on 2 floors. On the 1st floor is an open plan living / dining area with a TV and fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen (gas hob, electric oven, still and sparkling water dispenser, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher) and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. There is a twin / single room (made into a double on request) with an ensuite and separate shower room with a WC. Upstairs is the primary kingsize bedroom (twin on request) with an ensuite bathroom with shower, plus a double bedroom and bathroom with shower. You’ll also find a spa with a jacuzzi, sauna and outdoor cold shower, gardens, BBQ, a heated pool (12m x 6m, depth 1.4m throughout) and a covered seating area to provide shade. Not forgetting a summer kitchen (microware, filter coffee machine, small fridge, dishwasher and TV).

Style Notes

La dolce vita. Facing south, this traditional Tuscan home gets the best of the sun all day long. Its history is evident in the rustic wood beams and beautiful terracotta tiles. Inside you’ll find a relaxed contemporary style with soft pastels in the main living area. The bedrooms are colorful with traditional patterned bedspreads. The 1st floor twin bedroom that opens to the garden has a wall mural of delicate leaves. We love the outdoor dining table under the pergola, the wonderful pool, and the decorative knife, fork and spoon on the wall. A nod perhaps to the country’s national obsession with food, which will soon be yours too.
