This spacious 1-bedroom flat in central Reykjavik sleeps up to 6 +1, overlooks a playground and is across the road from one of the city’s best thermal swimming pools. Decorated in Scandinavian spartan style, with white walls, white linen and wooden floors, it has a large bedroom, spacious living room with piano and harmonium and a kitchen and bathroom. A cot is available for young children. We love the views from the balconies, of the playground in one direction and a patchwork of colored rooftops and sea beyond it in another. It’s an easy place to stay in the city with kids - a short stroll from the rugged coastline in one direction and the shops and city’s cultural attractions in the other.

What we love

  • Great views: overlooking the kids playground at the back of the building and city rooftops as far as the sea at the front
  • Vesturbaejarlaug, an outdoor thermal swimming pool, is just across the street, with a kids pool and adult pool, saunas and hot tubs
  • Large living space with views of the city plus dining table, piano, harmonium and space to play
  • Mattresses for up to 4 people for use in the living space
  • Kitchen with fridge, stove and oven
  • Black tiled bathroom with shower and bath
  • Crib, high chair and toys available
  • Garden with picnic table outside (note that images show Reykjavik in the winter)
  • Close to the sea and a lovely seaside walking and cycling route

Reykjavík, Iceland

Meet the Vikings

Many Icelanders can trace their family history right back to the Vikings – so where better to get to know this part of ancient history? The capital of Iceland is the size of a small town anywhere else in the world, and has a patchwork of colored houses in the old town, an old harbor which runs whale watching trips and a plethora of design stores, fashion boutiques and cafés. Visit museums and art galleries, swim in the Blue Lagoon or tour the countryside nearby, marvelling at volcanic peaks, glaciers, towering waterfalls and shaggy little ponies.

We had a great stay at this apartment! Bjargey left very clear instructions and we had no problem finding the place or getting in. It's in a good location for exploring Reykjavik - there was always parking on the street and driving into the centre was quick and easy. We loved the pool that is basically just across the street and the nearby grocery store had a great selection. The apartment has lots of space to spread out and relax.

We had a very nice stay in Melhagi Residence. The apartment is very well located, clean, nice and the owner is really helpful. We were traveling with 4 kids, two of them 5 years old. It would have been nice to have a few toys in the apartment for them, on the other hand we really appreciated the nice small playground just below the house.

We could not have found a better place for our stay. Sure, this is a bit of a walk from downtown but it allowed us to see reykjavik outside of its touristy downtown and everything we needed was within half a block of the flat. The cafe across the street is wonderful, the grocery store on the corner was great (not too expensive with a lot of fresh choices) and the community playground accessible via the backyard sealed the deal. The flat is also super well located for out of town drives being only a couple of blacks from the road that takes you to route 1 (Golden Circle or Loop) The flat is well stocked in stuffed animals and toys as well as plastic plates and cups, which was perfect for our 2.5 year old. Note that our toddler still used a stroller and/or a baby carrier so it made the 15 mins walk to downtown very manageable. If you have older kids it might be trickier.

Apartment very copnvenient and close to the city center (less than 20mins walk, with a stroller). The livign room is very big and suited to children that like to run a lot. We might have wanted a microwave and a television for additional confort.

Bjargey was a great communicator, ensuring that we had everything we needed every step of the way. The logistics worked very smoothly (a bonus with two young children). The flat was in the best location and we made full use of the local facilities. Surprisingly comfortable sofa bed. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
