Perks for the Parents

Escape the city and relax at this serene Hudson valley farmhouse in Germantown with 12 acres of private land, toys for the kids, a chef’s kitchen for the grown-ups, plus firepit for everyone. It sleeps 5 + 1. Parents will appreciate the primary bedroom with a glorious claw foot tub for an indulgent soak. The kitchen has everything you need to cook the delicious local produce foraged from local farm stands, while the piano or Bluetooth speaker in the living room provide the musical backdrop. As the sun sets you can light the fire in the living room or, if it’s summer, roast s’mores on the fire pit and swing in the hammock on the front porch. Or wander down the mowed paths to discover the tucked-away pond.

Why Kids Love it

This house is well set up for young children with a stair gate and highchair on request and a nursery with a crib plus a twin / single. The beds have organic cotton bedding and there’s a dresser with toys, games and books for kids under 6. The family bathroom has a tub for evening bath time. For older kids, the trampoline in the large backyard is great fun. They can play tunes on the piano and the trunk in the living room is stuffed with games. Stroll down the street and there’s a farm where they can see cows, sheep, and donkeys. In the nearby town is a library and playground. Or drive to local farms like Greig Farm or Mead Orchards, where they can pick their own fruits and vegetables, pet animals, and learn about farming.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights. Guests have access to the entire house and property except for the outbuildings, barns and basement that are out of bounds. The house has a keypad entry and parking for 2 cars. There is a downstairs stair gate, fireplace guard and highchair on request. Guests are welcome to use the trampoline, but the hosts are not liable for injuries. Please note that there are no shades on the windows and no TV. There is reliable WiFi. Seasonal window AC units are installed in each bedroom from Memorial Day to Labor Day. New York City is around 2 hours, 10 minutes by car.

About the Location

This farmhouse in the Hudson Valley, upstate New York, is located down a quiet country lane and surrounded by private land. You’ll be a 5-minute drive from downtown Germantown. Style Notes

Relaxed country charm. This 1890s farmhouse is styled and renovated to evoke calm and quiet. With minimalist décor, white walls and linens and simple, wood furniture, it achieves this beautifully. The beds are comfortable with Brooklinen bedding and eco-friendly products are provided in the bathrooms. The kids’ room is playful and cheerful with colorful artwork and wall murals. The kitchen has pale, painted Shaker-style units, wood worktops and a stainless-steel gas hob and oven. We love the neutral toned décor, the peaceful view from the screened-in porch, or out of the claw foot soaking tub window, and the ample acres for kids to be free-range.
