Perks for the Parents
This quiet village home near the Slovenian/Italian border is ideal for a get-away-from-it-all break, and is close to walking paths, Alpine rivers and national parks. The house is set in a spot with very little traffic so children can play freely and safely. Set near the Italian border, you can spend days hiking in national parks on crossborder routes and jagged mountains in Triglav National Park, among other places.
Why Kids Love it
Kids love the freedom at this home, where they can play freely in the garden and around the house. They can also enjoy feeding the local chickens and goats. In the summer, the alpine rivers nearby are a great place to swim and play as well. For older kids, the Soca Valley beckons with white water rafting, ziplining and plenty more adrenaline-fuelled activities.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 7 days. Basic safety rules should be respected in the village; kids should not play around the ruins. Note that stairs are not gated inside the house and kids should be supervised on any balconies. There is no WiFi - note that this is a relatively remote location. Car rental is essential. The local village has a restaurant and bar.
About the Location
The house is in the village of Robidisce, a village very close to the Italian border in Slovenia. It is an off the beaten track destination, close to some of the best attractions of the Soca valley and Triglav National Park. Nearby, there is a warm alpine river, Nadiza, where you can swim in summer. The nearest airports are in Trieste (1.15 hours), Ljubljana (2.5 hours) and Venice (2 hours).
Accommodation Details
This renovated holiday house has a large living room with fully equipped kitchen and 2 bedrooms upstairs, 1 with a queensize bed and 1 with a double bed. Two single sofa beds are also available for extra guests, along with a travel crib for babies. Bathrooms include modern shower units; there is also a sauna. There is a sitting/dining area and a large garden outside.
Style Notes
Country cottage. The historic houses are culturally protected and are made from traditional materials, wood and stones. Wood beamed ceilings add a dash of Italian style, with rustic exposed brickwork in many rooms. We love the characterful wood-framed bedroom at the top of the house, the vast amount of space to play in and enjoy, and the unplugged, off the beaten track appeal.
