The Laughlin Road Residence
Perks for the Parents
This incredible contemporary space sleeps up to 6, and is in a wilderness location on the outskirts of Guerneville, next to the Redwoods State Natural Reserve. The property is just as cool and contemporary as the surroundings are beautiful and breathtaking. There are 3 spacious bedrooms, each with queen-sized beds and modern spa bathrooms. Should you tire of the views, there’s a great gallery for TV and relaxing. It is just a short drive to coffee shops and restaurants.
Why Kids Love it
Kids will love the huge redwood, the treehouse and the tether ball for outdoor play. Nearby, it’s possible to visit horses, hike in the forest and explore the Russian River. The house suits older kids best, who can enjoy the tech and hot tub; the stairs are not ideal for younger children. The beach is a 5-minute drive away. The garden is perfect for kids and grown-ups, with a huge deck, hot tub and treehouse.
Things to Know
Minimum stay: 2 nights. There is minimal clutter, so it is relatively safe for kids, but note that there are ungated metal stairs and a hot tub plus a treehouse. Younger children will need supervision, especially those staying with crawling babies or toddlers. No smoking or pets. In the summer, the river and forests are great to explore, while everything is beautiful in the winter. Please note that there is a 12% Sonoma County Occupancy tax that the host will charge separately when a booking is confirmed.
About the Location
The residence is just 5 minutes' drive from the heart of Guerneville in the Russian River area of Sonoma. The historic logging town is 1.5 hours’ drive north of San Francisco and the main airports, Oakland and San Francisco. Downtown, there’s great ice cream (Guerneville Bank Club), great restaurants (Boon, Seaside Metal), and a great coffee shop (Big Bottom Market).
Accommodation Details
This 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom modern house is set over 1 floor with a mezzanine gallery. It has an open plan kitchen/lounge/diner with high ceilings, and a TV room on the mezzanine level above/facing the living room. The 3 bedrooms each have a queensize bed. There is a deck with hot tub, large gardens with a redwood tree, and a treehouse.
Style Notes
Contemporary minimalist. The house has been featured in Dwell architecture magazine. Clad in cedar, it has a natural exterior, and concrete floors and black metal windows inside. The furniture is sleek and modern. Light wooden beams add warmth to the space, while the outdoor area has been kept natural with grassy plants and trees. We love the huge windows which face the old redwood tree and hot tub.

Russian River, Sonoma
Redwoods, vineyards and river beaches
In northern California, close to Sonoma’s beaches and famed for its wineries, Russian River is a fantastic spot for an active family break. Hike in the forest on the Armstrong Redwoods trail to discover trees over 1,400 years old; play in the river at Johnson’s Beach where the shallow water is perfect for younger kids, or take a trip to the Sonoma Coast state park to go whale watching or play on ocean beaches.
