This Saint-Germain-en-Laye stunner sleeping up to 7+ 1 wows with its eclectic design. The 19th century chateau is a dream for families with older children or those traveling with grandparents who want a peek at the city and the surrounding countryside. It was once the seat of French kings and with its magnificent details, it’s easy to see why royalty found it so appealing. We like to think the disco ball dangling from crown molding would have pleased Louis XIV just fine. The residence is in a market town – 8 miles west from Paris - where a bustling, thrice weekly market tempts with fabulous cheese shops, bakeries, butchers and fishmongers. Explore the huge local park with terrific views over Paris or let the children play kings and queens defending the magnificent forest. This is the perfect place for a family to discover Paris and the charms of a quiet market town.

Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Outside Paris

Forest frolics and family fun

On the west side of Paris, 20 minutes by train from the city centre, this neighbourhood offers a delightful French experience and is surrounded a large oak and beech forest. It’s full of cafés, restaurants and patisseries, along with a much lauded gourmet market; for children, there are playgrounds, and play parks and cycle paths in the forest.

Natasha's house was lovely to come home to at the end of our busy Paris days. We found the RER to be smooth and a quick 25 min ride from just about anywhere downtown. The house is very spacious, welcoming and has a great backyard with hens and gardens. There is a large playroom upstairs and lots of bedrooms (5) so each of the kids had their own room. St. Germain is a friendly, quiet market town with a wonderful museum of history in the local castle, gardens, markets and small shops and vendors. The kids enjoyed a little more freedom here than in Paris and we loved running on the trails and getting out early for baked treats in the morning when town was still sleepy.
