Perks for the Parents

With a private boardwalk down to the beach and a resident butler, this sensational beach house on an unspoilt beach on Golden Mile, Saint Helena Bay offers a luxurious stay with ocean views. Relax on deck chairs and bean bags, read books or have a snooze in cushion-laden cozy corners, or take a dip in the pool or the sea. The resident butler will perform all kitchen and dining duties, clean rooms daily as well as manage the pool, light the fire and spark up the lanterns whilst being your host. Once you have arrived, it’s hard to leave.

Why Kids Love it

There is a pool, a white sand beach and the ocean just steps away. Crawling babies will find plenty of room to move around (and are protected from the pool); toddlers and walkers likely can zoom around and play. It is a nice place to ride a small bike or scooter. For bigger kids, there are waves to boogie board on and proper bikes to ride outside. The pool is in a protected courtyard and is fun all day. For teenagers, take your pick from snooker, table tennis, surfing, SUP and satellite TV in a soundproof room. Buckets and spades and pool toys provided.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 days regularly, 5 nights December-January and other peak periods. Maximum 10 guests. Guest will be required to fill out a Holiday Letting Agreement prior to the arrival date. The host will send this once a booking is accepted. Safety notes: there is a pool net to protect the kids from the pool, and it is a good step up from the deck. There are a couple of steep staircases where little ones might need supervision, but there are barriers to put across at the top. The well equipped kitchen includes 2 dishwashers, deep sinks and plenty of fridge space and ice. The house has WiFi and a TV room with a flat screen TV with surround sound system, DVD and satellite TV. Up to 2 pets allowed by arrangement with the host. Photos included here by The Beauraux.

This 6-bedroom, 5-bathroom house is set across 1 building with 2 floors and another building with an upper floor. There is a master bedroom with kingsize bed, large bathroom with walk in shower and bathtub, and a sitting area with private deck and seaview. A door leads to a kid bunk room with 2 double bunk beds and its own shower bathroom and toilet. In the main house, there are 2 bedrooms (1 with kingsize bed, 1 with fullsize/double bed plus small child’s bed) that share a shower-only bathroom. On the upper floor, separate from the main house, there are 2 smaller double/fullsize bedrooms, one with shower bathroom and the other with full bathroom. There is an open plan living area with courtyard and heated pool in the center, plus sliding doors on both sides to create open flow to the sea.

Style Notes

Natural living. Neutral calming colours tie into the organic surroundings with use of natural rock, wood and linen. This calm, secluded retreat is miles away from worldly cares and offers front row seats to the spectacular displays put on by the Atlantic Ocean. Dolphins arrive daily to entertain; whales breach noisily and storms play out over the sea. Designed to truly make the most of the surrounding natural beauty, sliding doors open on both sides of the house to allow for the best views. Deck chairs and comfy beanbags dot the sunlit patio and a cushion laden cosy-corner for reading books or catching the sunset is hard to resist. All bedrooms include super comfy mattresses and 100% cotton sheets and down duvets; well equipped bathrooms with white towels and heated towel rails add to the comfort factor.

Saint Helena Bay, South Africa

Whales, dolphins and postcard-perfect beaches

On the Cape West Coast, this beautiful destination has white sand beaches, meadows of wild flowers and schools of dolphins somersaulting through clear ocean water. One of the most popular bays in the world for whale watching, trips out across the water from August to November can offer glimpses of Humpback and Southern Right Whales and their calves. Shelley Point Lighthouse offers beautiful views and birdlife, while the West Coast National Park is great for kids, who can spot white pelicans, flamingos, Eland and more.
