Perks for the Parents

This contemporary villa with a pool is walking distance from the village and includes plenty for young children. Very well set up for a family stay, it has a kitchen and family-sized dining area with view on the pool and the garden so you can always keep an eye on the kids. Along with 2 stylish and spacious master bedrooms, there is a separate bathroom and 2 children bedrooms. The kitchen includes basics but is not a fully equipped family kitchen.

Why Kids Love it

The location of the residence is a real plus for all ages: teens can walk to the village, and local playgrounds are a 5-minute walk away. There are plenty of toys and books for children under 10. The house is a great family space with a living room large enough for wheeled toys and bright and colorful children’s bedrooms, plus a pool and garden. A crib, high chair, baby bath, baby toys and all necessary baby equipment can be provided.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 5 nights in low and mid season, 7 nights from Saturday to Saturday in July and August. The house is safe and secure: the garden is enclosed and the pool is secured by an automatic shutter. Note that there is a mezzanine level with spiral stairs without stair gates. Young children will need supervision around the pool and living room - folding doors open directly to the pool terrace. There is an outdoor parking space for up to 3 cars secured by an automatic gate. Car rental is essential in this area.

About the Location

In the heights of Saint Remy de Provence, this elegant villa has views of the Alpilles and is a short walk from the village shops, with playgrounds nearby. The local area is charming and great for kids. The beautiful towns of Arles, Avignon, Aix-en-Provence and Isle-sur-la-Sorgue are all less than an hour away, as are the famous vineyards of Chateauneuf du Pape. Avignon airport is 30 minutes’ drive; Nimes airport is 40 minutes away and Marseilles airport is 1 hour away. Eurostar stops in Avignon, 30 minutes away.

Accommodation Details

This 180 sqm 5-bedroom villa sleeps up to 10 guests plus 2 babies/toddlers. It has a kitchen open to the living room, a terrace and a garden with Alpilles views and a pool, which is heated to 28-degrees celcius. Bedrooms are arranged with 1 master bedroom with an in-room shower and kingsize bed, 3 further bedrooms with queensize or kingsize beds and a shared shower bathroom, and 2 children’s bedrooms. One is set up with 2 twin beds and the other has a crib.

Style Notes

Bright, light, modern and sophisticated. This modern villa has playful primary color accents in the childrens rooms and design touches including oak-topped counters in the open kitchen. Luxury touches include a home theater with state of the art Bose sound system. Air conditioning refreshes all rooms and the petanque court is protected from the sun. The garden is planted with olive trees and other Provencal species. We love the modern lightbulbs, the family-friendly open layout of the downstairs, and the shaded dining area on the pool terrace.

I am in love with Provence. I love the blue of the sky, the heat in Summer, the cold in Winter..the food, the people..

The host Amelie, is wonderful and was very generous and helpful making this property available to us; extremely responsive. We would highly recommend her service. This property is a tricky one as it was really a mixed bag -- lots of great things, but lots of things that were not quite as we would have hoped and not as advertised. That was the real problem -- false advertisement. Great: * Location was fantastic; close to/walking distance to the shops in St. Remy; short and easy drive to nearby towns; right at the foot of the mountains for hiking and exploring. Couldn't be better. * Very quiet neighborhood * Comfortable beds with new, clean sheets/comforter * Everything in house new/clean * A/C worked well * Beautifully designed and well appointed -- cute kids bedroom. Lovely attention to detail. Enough style but not too much. The pictures accurately reflect the space. Not so great: *Advertised as ensuite bathrooms, not true as there were no ensuite toilets!! This was the oddest set up of baths. Master bedrooms had a shower wall behind the bed, two sinks, but no toilet. There were 2 separate toilet rooms with no sinks. The house had a total of 3 showers, 5 sinks, 2 toilets -- odd and extremely inconvenient in the middle of the night or to get kids to wash their hands after going to the bathroom. *In the master suites you feel like you are in a shower -- especially given that there are no shower doors and the water gets all over the bathroom floor. No rugs, so you had to use the towels to mop it up and towels were limited. * Also, a soaking tub is advertised. There is no soaking tub! No tub at all. *Limited number of kitchen cooking essentials (pots, cooking spoons, potholders, dish towels) * We were warned that the kitchen counters while pristine, were porous and stained easily and we would be charged for any stains. We spent way to much time worried and cleaning behind the kids so that we didn't damage the counter. Impractical and annoying for a family home for a family vacation rental. Install proper counters! * Although new, the dishwasher and clothes dryer not working properly * Insufficient number of towels (extra ones would have helped especially given the shower configuration) * The pool, lovely but NOT heated as advertised and only half full, which I assume is a problem that will be repaired; also advertised as it being secured by an automatic shutter, which we didn't see. We would have used the pool a lot more if it was heated and full. Missed opportunity. * Baby gate advertised -- "stair gates can be added on request" --but not available for the spiral staircase, which of course the baby was attracted to!

Artists, sunshine and good living

Twelve miles south of Avignon, this beautiful Provençal village embodies all that is great about the area; art, good living and sunshine. Vincent Van Gogh lived here for a time; it’s also the birthplace of Nostradamus. Explore the Roman ruins nearby after browsing chocolate shops and playing in rivers beside flower-filled meadows.
