Perks for the Parents

This artistic and creative family home has a great backyard for kids and includes plenty for younger children. Whether you like the framed arrowheads, black and white photography or Sharon Montrose’s baby animal photography, the bohemian vibe of the home is charming. The house is open format so you can keep your eye on the littles while cooking. The dining room table has a comfy wrap around bench and the bathtub is made for relaxing in once the littles are in bed. There is an office that may be available for those bringing work with them on discussion with the owners.

Why Kids Love it

There are lots of toddler toys and the kids have their own playroom/bedroom. The nursery is set up for babies with a changing station and monitor and is close to the master bedroom so you can be near. A baby monitor is available for guest use. San Anselmo’s fire trucks park just down the street which is fun for kids to walk past. There are 2 parks within walking distance of the house, one with a giant dinosaur and the other, a block from the house, is a maze of community gardens which is perfect for wandering around in with the littles.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. The yard is fenced in. There are only 5 steps leading up to the house and they are wide. The house is stylish but pretty well child-proofed. The house is all on 1 level internally. Car rental is recommended for exploring the local area; the property is in a highly walkable location, a block from downtown with lots of cute boutiques and coffee shops.

About the Location

Style Notes

Modern bohemian. The house is very light and bright and pretty stylish with a mix of antiques and fun pops of color on a white palette. We are a family of 3. Téo, our 2 year old son, is a peach. We live in Marin and I'm a florist/event designer and my husband is in tech. We love home exchanges when possible. We used to live in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn but moved to California to be closer to Julia's family who live in the Napa Valley (and also have a rental home!) We love hanging out as a family and visiting cities and beaches.

This place is so special! Loved everything about it - location is so close to the village, the street itself is so beautiful, Julia was a perfect host and the house is just so easy and lovely. The best part though was waking up to a pink-hued room with the sunrise each morning!

What an amazing property. My family and I were so comfortable and there were so many great toys for my little boy. I literally found myself wanting to move right in. It was so lovely and I would absolutely love to stay again in Julia's beautiful home.

San Anselmo, Marin County

Antiques, festivals and outdoor fun

Around 20 miles north of San Francisco, this bay area town benefits from sunny days and cultural attractions to keep the kids busy - plus the beach. Sunset Magazine has named it the ‘best in the west’ for antiquing, but it’s not just a shopping destination, with charming parks and mountains with hiking and biking trails, annual art, music and wine festivals and beaches a short drive away.
