All bedrooms are on the bottom floor, with an open living-dining-kitchen room plus bathroom and deck on the sunny upper level. There’s easy access to restaurants and downtown San Rafael and wine tasting in Sonoma is just 25 minutes away.

Why Kids Love it

The house is best for kids 4 and up and is stocked with a plethora of toys, games and books for kids under 10. There are playgrounds and restaurants nearby too, and you could be playing on the beach in under an hour. It is set around a great family space with open living, dining and kitchen area and has bright, light rooms and a lovely kids bedroom with twin bed. Both the downstairs bathrooms have tubs for kids and there is an additional play/ reading room for kids and parents. And did we mention the swing in the living room?

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. The house is set up for kids over the age of 4; for younger children, there is a child-safe mini deck accessed from the playroom and downstairs bedroom and a stair gate may be provided on request. All the windows are safe and the fireplace is non-functioning, for display only. Extra parking is available on both sides of the property, and there is a 2 car garage.

About the Location

The residence is in the Sun Valley neighborhood of San Rafael and enjoys sunny and lovely weather. Car rental is recommended but not essential in the area: there is a bus stop in walking distance. The house is close to restaurants, playgrounds and the downtown library. It is 45 minutes to Stinson beach, 25 minutes to Sonoma, roughly 50 minutes to SFO, and 50 minutes to OAK Airports.

Accommodation Details

This 2-story open plan home includes a wraparound outdoor deck and private drive shared with 5 neighbors. The main open concept living space includes kitchen, dining area and lounge and opens to the deck. There is a bathroom on the upper floor and all bedrooms are on the lower floor: a master bedroom with queensize bed and double sofa bed, and a children’s bedroom with a twin bed. There is an extra kids playroom plus an air bed on request.

Style Notes

Bright, light and contemporary. This sunny home is owned by a home magazine stylist, and was featured in Better Homes & Gardens Magazine. It takes a neutral and serene color palette with pops of color and adds quirky charm - a chalkboard wall for doodles, a wooden swing for playtime - to create a unique family home. We love the distinctive breakfast bar, the gold-spotted play room and the captivating portrait on the kids bedroom wall.

We are a family of 3...Bay Area natives. I am a magazine stylist/ interior designer. My husband is a San Francisco fireman. We love living in Marin and having family nearby. If we're not enjoying all that Marin or San Francisco have to offer, you can be sure to find us exploring Tahoe or Stinson Beach. Our daughter is getting older and we are getting the itch to travel more and more.

San Rafael, Marin County

The heart of Marin County

Once a Spanish mission settlement, San Rafael is now the county seat of Marin County. Its lively downtown is filled with restaurants and shops, with the Mission San Rafael Arcangel at its center. Take the kids swimming at McNear’s Beach Park, visit the Marin History Museum, embark on a family tour with a Wildcare naturalist, or explore the fantastic Farmers Market at the Civic Center.
