Perks for the Parents

This luminous Santa Cruz home has mid century details, lots of space for the whole family and one of the area’s best parks and playgrounds at the end of the street. Ideally set-up for families of all ages, there is a lot of outdoor space, including a large terrace with dining table and a sun dappled garden strung with lights. The property is on an acre, with an expansive deck overlooking the Boardwalk and beach beyond. While the property can be contained by closing the front gate, the street itself ends a half block away at one of Santa Cruz's best parks and playgrounds. Stokke high chair and Pack’n’Play available on request.

Why Kids Love it

This lovely home has details to enchant the whole family. Both the library and the kid's room are filled with tons of games, dress-ups, toys, crafts and books. Play hide and seek outside under the giant trees or read and play games in the living room in front of the Morso, glass enclosed wood-burning fireplace. Past the park at the end of the street and down across the trestle (hello Lost Boys!) you will find the Beach and Boardwalk. For teens, walking en masse to the Boardwalk and Arcade is the perfect adventure. Ride bikes to downtown or stroll the local bakery and grocery store, just 3 blocks away.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. The house is set across 2 stories with a baby gate available for guests with small kids (please request). Young children may need extra supervision on the decks and in the garden. A caretaker lives on premises on the property. Off-street parking is available for up to 3 cars, and there is ample street parking available as well. Car rental is useful for this location. Bathrooms include 1 with bathtub and 3 with shower. The house is WiFi and Sonos enabled.

Style Notes

Beachside bohemian. This rambling, gated Italianate estate on the east side of Santa Cruz has been part of the town’s history for decades. Recently, it has been carefully updated with modern amenities yet retains much of its original character and charm. With breathtaking light at all hours of the day, it has stunning views of Santa Cruz, the ocean and beyond. The interior is designed with an easy, bohemian elegance. Mid century furniture is mixed with a vintage and ethnic eclecticism, and unfussy high design. From the palm-printed headboard to the mid century cabinets and red leather sofa, this property has style by the yard. We love the spacious, light bedrooms, with pretty details and unique lighting, the lovely outdoor spaces where you can relax over a long lunch in the sunshine, and the fabulous white-tiled chef’s kitchen, set up with all the appliances you could wish for.

Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County

Butterflies, beaches and the boardwalk

A hundred thousand Monarch butterflies can’t be wrong: Santa Cruz is one stop on the butterfly migration route and is one of California’s most unmissable beach towns. With a family focus at the boardwalk amusement park (California’s oldest, in fact), plus marine museums, whale watching in season and surf beaches, there is more than enough to keep you occupied for a week or more. Don’t miss cookies and ice cream on Pacific Avenue.
