It’s a great starting point for short hikes or meditative walks through its natural paths. A fire pit for family s’mores and plenty of outdoor games are provided. In addition to large kitchen, there is a family-sized dining table and breakfast bar with stools where you can enjoy views of the rear of the property and its wildlife. The deep soaking copper tub is a retreat in itself, while radiant heated floors efficiently keep the home warm and toasty in the winter and in summer the large barn doors can be safely secured and opened, with screens drawn, to enjoy the fresh spring air and landscape views, bug-free.

Why Kids Love it

The property is a vast playspace for children, both indoors and out. Kids will love the provided baseballs and mitts, badminton, wiffleball, soccer and chess/checkers/backgammon set. There is an outdoor fire pit for roasting hotdogs and s'mores, and space to pitch tents and sleep under the stars. Inside, there's plenty of room in the main area for wheeled toys. There are lots of kid-friendly restaurants and activities just minutes away, and delicious local pizza delivery.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights, and 3 nights for long holiday weekends. This large home is a barn conversion of an original Dutch barn from the late 1800s. Well-behaved pets are welcomed. Additional amenities can be provided upon request. Interior wooden stairs and upstairs railings do include some gaps and drops and stair gates are not included. An old rustic wooden shed is also located in the back area of the property. Ample private parking available. High-end sound system, fire pit, radiant floors, WiFi and washer/dryer included.

About the Location

Located just 2 hours from New York City in the village of Saugerties in Hudson Valley, voted one of the smallest cool towns in America. This upstate New York community includes many family-friendly eateries, local movie theaters, farms and animal sanctuaries to visit, and during the summer, lots of festivals and block parties to experience. It is around 50 minutes to Stewart International Airport and 1 hour to Albany airport by car. Convenient to Woodstock, Thruway, Catskill Park.

Accommodation Details

This 3 bedroom, 3 bath, 3 level home sits on a 6 acre clearing of a total of 24 acres in a private cul-de-sac. Communal spaces include a vast, open ground floor with room for wheeled toys. There are various places to lounge and relax, including a sitting area to watch TV and another corner sofa area with fireplace. The industrial-style kitchen is large with ample counter space; the corner breakfast bar/ counter seating area has window views of the property’s rear landscape; a large wood slab dining table seats 10-12. The ground floor bedroom is conveniently located just across the ground floor bathroom with shower. Two sets of staircases lead to the second level: one set leading to the second bedroom with a full/queen size bed; the other set lead to the second bathroom with shower, as well as the large primary bathroom with deep soaking, copper tub. A few steps up to the third level is where you will find the spacious, loft-style primary bedroom with California King-sized bed. With the exception of the room's large sliding doors for privacy, this bedroom is open with views of the home’s spectacular wood beams and skylights. The third level is also what joins the second floor bedroom and bathrooms. Upon request when booking, a tall double air bed can be provided and easily set up in the large primary bedroom.

Style Notes

Farmhouse-modern. An original Dutch barn from the late 1800s, this home was relocated from its original location in Carlisle, NY. Full of one-of-a-kind character, it flaunts a copper roof, soaring ceilings, 100-year-old timber framing, polished concrete floors and antique stone walls. With multiple skylights and the wide open spaces indoors and out, the barn gets plenty of natural light. We love the stunning, serene landscape, natural outdoor fire pit, and organic art and photography throughout the home.

I was born and raised in New York City, and Andy is a longtime NYC resident originally from the UK. We have been Upstate residents for the past 9 years. We fell in love with Saugerties' friendly locals, variety of delicious restaurants to choose from, as well as how many activities and local adventures the area offered. We love New York, but also love New England road trips, and traveling abroad when we can, especially Costa Rica. We currently don't have kids, but treat our Bengal kitten, Benali, like a very special member of the family :) We love our home and find it very special. We always look forward to sharing it and its special experience with others who can also appreciate it!

Saugerties, Catskills

Apple picking, hiking and farmer’s markets

For an escape from the city with kids, look no further. Dynamic yet picturesque, Saugerties is one of Hudson Valley’s hottest spots. Explore the nearby towns of Woodstock and Kingston, hike the Catskill Mountains, kayak the Hudson River, or browse farmer’s markets and enjoy family-friendly eateries. In summer, music festivals add even more fun to the mix.

Our family of four along with our dog enjoyed our stay at Bellwood Barn. It is beautifully and thoughtfully furnished. The barn is close to great hiking locations and our dog especially loved the cold concrete floors. The open floor plan on the ground floor makes it ideal for enjoying family time. We found the kitchen had the items we most needed for making quick dinners and we appreciated all the local restaurant recommendations. We all loved The Durch in downtown Saugerties!

We had a great time at the Bellwood Residence. The house and the grounds are beautiful. The kids (age 4, age 1 and age 1) loved running and crawling around the big open barn and on the deck outside. The only downside was that we had hoped to grill, but the door to the deck with the grill was broken, and the grill itself was in bad shape. It's also worth knowing that the master bedroom, while stunning, does not have total light or sound privacy from the living room and kitchen; the walls do not reach all the way to the ceiling.

We had a wonderful time at The Bellwood Residence. It was just as gorgeous as it was portrayed in the photos, and when the barn doors were open, it felt like a seamless indoor/outdoor space. Everything was extremely well-maintained, and Jessica was very responsive when we had any questions. What a unique and beautiful home!

The Bellwood Residence was so incredibly special. The pictures don’t fully capture the depth of the space. Our kids loved riding around with their two-wheelers on the cement floor., and the gorgeous copper tub was a perfect treat after a day of skiing. We loved the games, books and magnificent artwork. The linens were so comfortable that we even asked for the brands! Highly recommend this unique home.

We had a wonderful winter stay at Bellwood Barn. We were 2 families with 2 three year olds and they loved all of the space in the barn and outdoor adventures around the property. Jessica was incredibly helpful and communicative. We want to come back in the summer so we can throw open the doors and enjoy the sunshine.

We had the most wonderful time visiting Bellwood Barn, it such a lovely and special place in Hudson Valley. Very private setting, and amazing rustic feel to the barn. The copper tub is perfect after a long day. My kids loved running around in the yard and the firepit outside is the perfect place to roast marshmallows and drink wine. The kitchen is fully equipped and perfect for cooking in, and the large dining table can accommodate bigger families. We are looking forward to visiting again!

Stunning house in the country. We were three couples with small kids aged between 10 months and 2.5 years, and they all had a great time. The concrete floor is perfect for crawling and the eldest enjoyed the garden outside.
