Perks for the Parents

Need to get away from it all? You've found your spot. Enjoy a family desert escape with this luxuriously spacious property as your home away from home located at the foot of the 30,000-acre McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The Sonoran by Boutiq is spacious and well-appointed with responsive hosts who are only a phone call away to assist you during your stay. Book a babysitter, take advantage of one of the many local day spas and golf courses. The hot-tub is right outside the primary bedroom and perfect spot for stargazing. Cozy up with a cocktail to one of two outdoor firepits.

Why Kids Love it

The house is huge and therefore heaps of fun to explore. The kids' room has two, full-bed bunks and a TV for movie night. Visiting in the Spring (February to May are ideal months) you'll be able to see the desert in full wildflower bloom. Chances are you'll have heavenly weather no matter when you visit - 330 days a year of sunshine around these parts. Head to a local horse ranch for a family ride.

Things to Know

Make sure to rent an all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive equipped vehicle for your stay as the roads to the house are unpaved. You'll need to nominate a designated drive on this vacation as Ubers and Lyfts are generally pretty limited in this part of town. Snakes and spiders are a normal part of the desert habitat - be aware as you hike the local trailheads. No pets allowed. No smoking. No shoes inside to keep the property as pristine as possible. Huge laundry room so you can pack light.

About the Location

This property is located about a 45-minute drive from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on an unpaved road and is in a fairly remote location in Scottsdale. If outdoor desert adventures are high on your priority list, this is the place for you, your family, and friends. Multiple trailheads (Fraesfield Trailhead is only 10 minutes away) and incredible mountain views are at the ready giving you the opportunity to easily explore the Sonoran Desert knowing you've got a sprawling crash pad to return to. Old Town Scottsdale is about 40 minutes away by car if you're looking for boutiques, restaurants, art, and more urban inspiration to break up those picturesque desert sunsets. Animal lovers should make a visit to the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center which is only 8 minutes away by car. You can schedule a tour here where you may see mountain lions, bobcats, great horned owls, and more.

Accommodation Details

Full-appointed, kitted-out home sleeps a maximum of 16 guests across 5 bedrooms with 3.5 baths. Guests enter the house through either of the garage doors (codes made available the morning of check-in) and pass the laundry room. Turn left down the hallway to the primary bedroom which features a king-size bed, a patio, walk-in closet, an en-suite bathroom with dual sinks, walk-in shower, and a deep soaking tub. Turn right and pass a half bath on your way to the grand, fully-stocked kitchen which shares a breakfast nook, dining area, and living room with TV. The remaining 4 bedrooms are down the main hall past the kitchen. There's a king room just past the half-bathroom with access to the front yard. There's another full bathroom followed by a king-sized bedroom. At the end of the hall you'll find the bunk room (two full-sized bunks) which shares a bathroom with another king-bedroom.

Style Notes

A dreamy desert oasis. There's an almost absurd amount of space for any size family to spread out and enjoy this desert retreat. We love the proximity to nature, the hot tub, firepits, and the Wolf stove in the enormous fully-equipped and stocked kitchen.

Scottsdale and Phoenix, Arizona

Art, culture and the desert

Arizona’s state capital is alive with art and culture and surrounded by the desert. Camelback Mountain is the city’s most popular hike and gives views over the city and mountains; the Desert Botanical Garden shows off sculptural shapes, cacti and delicate blooms and holds seasonal concerts. In the city itself, the Musical Instrument Museum is one of many stellar cultural spots that will hold the kids’ attention; Roosevelt Row is a must-see for art lovers wanting to trawl galleries, and Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home, offers the ultimate in inspiration for contemporary architecture lovers.
