Perks for the Parents

This family home has a great kitchen area and breakfast bar. Two separate bathrooms were recently re-designed with a contemporary finish - the master bathroom has tadelakt walls and a bath and shower. The loft conversion has a large double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom and a large glass window with view of London. There are restaurants, bars and cafés nearby with Westfields Shopping Mall 10 minutes’ walk away.

Why Kids Love it

This is an easy place to stay with small children, close to central London attractions and with a nice back garden. The owners have a 10-year-old daughter. Children can go to the kids movie on Saturday or Sunday morning in Westfield. There are tennis courts and playgrounds (Brook Green or Ravenscourt Park) within walking distance. Best for older children purely because babycare items, apart from a crib, are not provided.

Things to Know

There is parking space on the street with a meter or nearby Tesco offers 3 hours of parking free of charge. That said, car hire is not necessary with good public transport links nearby. The house is painted white (walls and floors) so guests are asked to leave shoes downstairs. There are no stair gates and the house is spread out over four floors. There is no TV. Baby care items aside from a crib are not provided. The house before renovations had been featured in Elle Decoration, The Telegraph, House & Garden and Inside Out.

About the Location

The residence is in Brook Green, a leafy, family friendly residential area between Shepherd Bush and Hammersmith in West London. There are reliable public transport links nearby: Goldhawk tube station is a 5-minute walk away and Shepherds Bush Market and Hammersmith tube and train stations are a 15-minute walk away. Heathrow airport is 7 miles away) and Paddington station is 2 miles away. Notting Hill is 15-20 minutes away.

Accommodation Details

This 6 bedroom home has a large open-plan lounge and airy kitchen with a long breakfast bar opening onto a back garden. There is a resin floor throughout the ground floor. The bedrooms include a new loft conversion with a double bedroom plus ensuite bathroom, a kids room with 2 twin beds and a second double bedroom. There are two bathrooms, one with a bathtub.

Style Notes

This is a large, bright and airy contemporary home with plenty of unique interior design details. Recently renovated to high standards, this beautiful home is owned by a renowned interior stylist, creative director and blogger. It is an inspiring, effortlessly chic, family home with a mixture of designer contemporary pieces and vintage treasure finds. We love the tadelakt bathroom and the monochrome photography.

We are a family of three and have been calling London our home for the past eighteen years. Steve is from New-Zealand (north island) and I'm French (South West). Our daughter Mila (11 years) is bilingual and she is a very active child who loves surfing & skating. Steve works in finance and I'm the Founder of online concept store BODIE and FOU www.bodieandfou.com (now sold), an Interior Stylist. Photographer & Blogger www.karinecandicekong.com | www.peoplefromthesea.com We recently finished major house renovations and as Steve said: "and then we became minimalist" :-) Our home is very spacious, relaxing and filled with natural light and I love how the sun flows in the rooms at various times of the day. Some days, it feels like we are having breakfast in LA. Our home (before the renovations) got featured in Elle Decoration, The Telegraph, Inside Out, House & Garden and many more http://karinecandicekong.com/press/ Instagram: http://instagram.com/bodieandfou/ Blog: www.karinecandicekong.com

A bientôt.

Karine was absolutely fabulous and forthcoming on email. Replies were super quick which is essential when young children are involved! Linda the babysitter was equally warm, helpful and easy to contact and did a great job getting the house prepared and showing us round. There was also a very pretty Xmas tree in place. It really is a beautiful house, decorated in a monochrome, minimal style which is very much in keeping with our personal style. We were a group of 5 adults and 3 children and enjoyed the space thoroughly. Access to Westfield and to central London was VERY easy and there are lots of cute shops and cafes nearby, including a delicious fish and chip shop on Brook Green. A few tips for other visitors: There are a lot of steps in the house which very young, older or more infirm groups might find challenging so it is useful to bear this in mind; we didn't find this an issue at all There is a large effective washing machine and two clothes horses but no dryer so allow enough drying time/clothes for this. Overall a very positive experience for all - I would definitely recommend staying here. thank you again Karine and Linda.

Overall, we had a great stay at the Brook Green Residence just before Christmas. The decorated tree in the living room gave a warm welcome, and the wine and chocolates were a lovely touch, thank you! The house was clean, the beds comfortable and the location superb - a couple of minutes walk from Goldhawk Road tube (and a variety of shops and restaurants), or a 10-minute stroll across the green to Shepherd's Bush or Hammersmith tube. We loved the design of the house, with just a few comments (not complaints!). The boiling water tap in the kitchen was a bit scary as my 9-year old quickly worked out how to use it and almost burned herself badly when she was trying to get a glass of tap water. I know that this is considered a design feature of the house, but from a 'family friendly' perspective, maybe not so much! We also found some medicines in a couple of the low drawers which might be a hazard for particularly young children. Finally, I was constantly worried about spilling food or liquid on the kitchen counters/sink/floor as the au pair who showed us around the house told us to be especially careful of the very expensive fittings! Again, not a problem if there were just adults in the house, but with young children ... it wasn't the most family friendly feature of the house. That said, the house was warm, had everything you would need from a short stay, and we would certainly recommend it to friends and family as an central, chic holiday house. Thank you!

The Brook Green Residence has been a perfect home for our family. (parents, two kids, nanny and Uncle Bob) We've combined business and pleasure during our trip and therefore a house base for the kids was just great! The house is very spacious and light and makes you feel good! The garden is an extra luxury especially in a town like London. We would definitely come back and we would like to thank the owner Karine for our wonderful stay.

Our family had a lovely stay in the Brook Green residence. The house is not only chic, but also very comfortable and cosy! The neighborhood was charming and our children had a great time playing in the playground at nearby Brook Green Park. It was a wonderful home away from home!

Karine's place was perfect for our recent stay in London. The house itself is beautiful. The design is clean, crisp, and spectacular. We did not want to go back to our normal life! We used each of the 6 bedrooms, and were far from crowded. Plenty of bedrooms, plenty of bathrooms. We did need to do a bit of minor kid-proofing for the unruly 2-year olds, but for 4+ year-olds, it should be pretty much ready to go. We lived in London for a year not too long ago (before kids) but did not really know Hammersmith or Shepherds Bush very well. It was a pleasant surprise. I found that the area to the South -- Brook Green and Hammersmith were very nice, indeed. There are a few parks within striking distance for the kids- the one on Brook Green itself was great. The connectivity is perfect as well. For some, it may seem a bit removed from central London, but we found it to be very accessible. It is just a 20 minute tube ride to Oxford Circus on the Central Line (out of Shepherd's Bush-- just a 10 minute walk), or the rest of the city from Hammersmith (Picadilly and Hammersmith/City lines). We also took the bus from Chelsea one day. Lots of options! It is certainly the way to go for us when in London. I am sure we'll be back!

We stayed at Karine's house this past August and had a wonderful time at her home! The house was everything we hoped for: bright, white, and minimalist. Karine was always available when we had questions, which made our stay easier and more pleasant. It is conveniently located near buses and subway stations. We really enjoyed our stay at Karine's house, and hope to be back again soon! Veronique

Shepherd's Bush, London

Sightseeing, shopping and playing

Conveniently located 30 minutes from London's most famous attractions (Buckingham Palace, British Museum, Covent Garden, the Natural History Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum and Trafalgar Square), Shepherd's Bush is a residential area in central London. Westfield, Europe's largest shopping centre is in its borough and there are several local parks great for kids, along with family-friendly eateries and good Tube connections.
