There are so many places to relax, play, and dine here - take your pick from the kitchen and living areas, to the expansive deck, outdoor sofa area, or dining patio. A lovely treehouse sits on the front lawn within view of the living room, so you can watch the children play while you relax in the stunning spacious living area, and the whole family will love gathering round the fire pit at night, toasting s’mores and listening to the trickle of the creek and waterfall.

Why Kids Love it

The property has 1 acre of grounds and the kids will love exploring the fishing pond, waterfall, stream, hot tub, plunge pool, sand pit, treehouse, monkey bars, hammock and swings. Inside, the home is full of books, board games, and a library of children’s books, together with lots of cozy nooks and crannies for the family to play and relax. The kids bedroom is also a big draw: the custom framed bunk beds are perfect for siblings to share, and budding rock stars will love the stepped music area. If they ever want to leave, there are 3 parks within walking distance.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 nights Sept - June, 4 nights July, August and holidays. Bookings will be accepted for parties of 6+1 and under. Safety notes: The property is best suited to children aged 5 and up. There are different areas of open water outside, some of which are not gated, so all children should be supervised at all times. The pool is 4 feet deep and it and spa are not gated. You'll find stadium stairs that lead from the back patio to the backyard - these stairs do not have hand rails so please be careful. One small dog may be considered for an additional fee - ask the hosts when booking. A dog and a cat live at the residence but will not be there during your stay. There is a large private driveway to fit multiple cars: driving is essential in this area but make sure you don’t block the driveway down to the neighbors’ home. Bikes can be stored next to the garage. The house has a dedicated yoga space, laundry area, and private office plus two additional work spaces. The hosts have a Peloton bike available to borrow for longer stays or home exchanges.

About the Location

This residence is located on a quiet private road in Loomis, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California, USA. It’s 30 minutes from Sacramento, 1.5 hours away from Lake Tahoe, and around 2 hours from San Francisco and Napa. The nearest international airport is Sacramento (around 40 minutes’ drive). You'll get the best of both worlds here: the home is private and has a rural feel, but it’s only a half-mile walk into town, where you can enjoy restaurants, bars, coffee shops, parks, and a yoga studio. There are many wineries within a 10-mile radius and the house is located right on a popular route for biking. The town of Auburn (10 miles east) is the Endurance capital of the world, and is home to amazing mountain trails and rivers. Nearby Folsom Lake State park (10 minutes’ drive) is great in the summer months, with its lake-side beach, open water swimming, and hiking trails.

Accommodation Details

The ranch has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, all set on 1 floor. Three of the bedrooms are located on one side of the house, and a private guest suite (with queensize bed, full bathroom and French doors out to the front deck) is situated on the other side of the house. The primary bedroom has a split kingsize bed, private office, and French doors leading out to the back deck and seating area. The kids bedroom has a set of bunk beds, and their family bathroom leads directly out to the hot tub and pool, so kids don’t have to run through the house with wet feet. The third bedroom has a double bed, and the hosts also have a travel crib on request. The gorgeous kitchen features a large island with a breakfast bar, and leads to the spacious living room. There are multiple dining spaces, including a round table nook near the kitchen, a large formal dining room, and the front and back decks. There's a BBQ outside and during the cooler months you can use the gas fire pit in the back yard or sit under the heat lamp on the back patio.

Style Notes

Rambling ranch. This expansive 3,000 sq foot home is clean and bright, with lots of windows, French doors, and decks looking out to nature, bringing the outside in for a true taste of indoor/outdoor living. The decks are furnished with natural wood materials and contemporary seating, creating relaxed and welcoming places to sit and relax (where you can easily keep an eye on the kids). The open plan living areas are filled with light and beautifully renovated with modern furnishings yet retaining traditional and rustic touches, such as the strong wooden beam opening between the kitchen and the living room. We love the warming denim blue kitchen cabinetry, the chunky wood dining benches, and the cozy stone fireplaces in the living area and kitchen.

A sun seeker married to a ski bum - together we are always looking for getaways to satisfy our wanderlust. You may find us and our two young daughters on the highway towing our "not quite vintage" little travel trailer. Currently, our favorite destinations are Western Montana, New Mexico and Truckee, CA.

Sierra Nevada Foothills, California

Visit the postcard-perfect Sierra Nevada foothills in California, where quaint towns and charming cities are steeped in Gold Rush history. Glistening tranquil lakes and expansive national parks create spectacular summer scenes, while the beautiful snow-capped peaks and bustling ski resorts draw families to visit the region’s cozy cabins in winter. The rural terrain provides exhilarating hiking and biking trails, but don’t worry; there are plenty of world-class wineries and vineyards nearby for the cool down.

This is a magical place! My family had an amazing time at the Ranch. It has everything a kid wants: pond, sand pit, pool, jacuzzi, kayak, animals from the neighbors... My kids (2 and 6yo) were able to see ducks, fish, cow, llama, turkey, rooster, sheep... The house was spot clean. It is very spacious, comfortable, cozy and with great amenities. The attention to details was amazing. Katie was so sweet! From welcoming gifts to fast response to our questions to great tips! We tried almost everything she told us to do. We were very sad to leave the place but we will for sure come back! Thanks Katie!!
