This sleek and private, single-story contemporary villa designed by Frederico Valsassina sleeps up to 6 adults, 2 older children, and up to 3 infants. Surrounded by a fragrant natural pine forest, this stunning space is full of clean lines, floor-to-ceiling windows, and expertly curated design touches; an original Vitra lounge chair from Charles and Ray Eames, Jielde lamps in the master bedroom, butterfly chairs outside, a Stuv fireplace, and a collection of 1960s vintage treasures. Kids will love the huge playroom filled with brightly colored toys and a cloth teepee. Adults and older children will love challenging one another on the private tennis court. This modern oasis is just minutes away from some of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal and is perfect for a larger family or two smaller families vacationing together.

  • Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout flood the entire space with natural light

I am Marta and my husband is Manuel, we have two kids! I'm an architect living in Lisbon and have a country House in Sintra near the beach where we can enjoy slow family days all together. We love to explore nature, kids love to play with pines and all the little treasures they can find. Walks on the beach and in forest aswell as the farmer's market it's a plus for us! Our house was designed by my father, Frederico Valsassina. Instagram: mvalsassina

Sintra, Atlantic Coast

Capital do Romantismo

Known as the capital of Romanticism, Sintra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site just 30 minutes west of Lisbon. Filled with rich history, splendid palaces, exciting museum collections, and scenic vistas overlooking the sea, this spectacular hilltop town has an abundance of charm. After imagining themselves as knights and princesses at the city’s three fairytale palaces, kids will delight at the thousands of toys for all ages on display at the Sintra Toy Museum. Don’t miss the local beaches and sunset from Cabo da Roca.

We had a wonderful time at this house. We stayed here in August with our 3 kids and there was everthing we needed for a relaxing holiday. The kids loved the garden, the toys in the house and the large trampolin. The beaches are very nearby and the Sintra area is very lovely to explore. Marta and Manuel were great in communication and helped us with a lot of recommandation during our stay. Overall, we had a wonderfuhl time there and our expecations were definetly exceeded.

The house is just as great as in the pictures, perhaps even better. Spacious architecture with gargantuan windows that frame the views of the forest in an amazing way. The 4 rooms each have a comfortable bathroom and our entire family (kids, mum and dad) especially liked the one with the tub built in the ground. Our kids loved all the beautiful toys and walking outdoors searching for large pine cones. The house is elegantly furnished with design furniture and despite its size - the kids dubbed it 'The Long House' - does feel cosy. It was great to have dinner on the terrace. We were here in summer, but were also fantasising what it would be like to be at the house in wintertime, it must be lovely too, with the fireplace and the views of the forest. The hosts Marta and Manuel were very friendly and helpful and we'd definitely recommend this place!

I stayed here in August with my wife and or two kids, ages 3 and 5. We all really enjoyed the house. The kids loved the big trampoline and the many toys around. The indoor/outdoor feel of the house is great. We followed many of Marta's recommendations for restaurants and beaches, and they were all very good recommendations.

As mentioned before by several others; the house is just perfect. The fact that there's no pool is compensated by the fact that beaches are very nearby. We were very lucky with the weather and followed all Marta's restaurant tips. Our boys loved the backyard which is a great playground. Marta and her husband are just fantastic hosts.

This residence was one of the most beautiful homes I have been to! Obviously, I was drawn to the photos prior to booking this house, but in person it is even more stunning! Sintra is a very small, yet cute town. We did not do a whole lot in Sintra besides visit a castle. We basically stayed in Sintra just to stay at this house. However, we were able to drive to Porto and Cascais during our stay here. My son who is 2, loved the kids play room and the abundance of toys that filled the room! He was so happy just to stay in so that he could play all day. They also had high chairs, a baby bath, children's plates and utensils to use. The chef's kitchen was beautiful and easy to use. Both Marta and her husband were very accommodating and met us for the checkin and checkout process. Communication before and during our stay was very easy via email. Marta had also arranged a housekeeper to come and clean during our stay at a small additional charge, which was quite convenient. Our only regret is that due to rainy weather we were not able to play tennis at their beautiful tennis court. Overall, we had a great and comfortable time at the residence. It was everything and more than I had hoped for! Thank you for a fun family stay at Gil Vicente Residence!

This was a wonderful place for us to stay, and a high point of our trip! The place is just beautifully designed, the bright white, straight lines of the building juxtaposing beautifully with the organic shapes and the warm colors of the surrounding hills and trees. The villa is new, and everything is in pristine condition. The spacious rooms feel even more generous because of all the floor-to-ceiling doors/windows that bring in beautiful light any time of the day. It has a great kitchen, many places for adults to lounge, and a ton of entertainment and toys for children. You can feel that the owners live there too, everything is designed for comfort and convenience. The bedrooms have amazing views of the pine trees. Nearby are some wonderful secluded beaches to enjoy. We can imagine this being a wonderful place for the owners to wind down after a busy work schedule in Lisbon, and we felt privileged to be allowed to feel that experience even if for only a few days.

We loved every moment of our stay at Marta and Manuel's beautiful home in Sintra. They are the most gracious hosts - lovely and welcoming - and they went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay so much we didn't want to leave! With information on restaurants, beaches, and attractions they provided we felt almost like locals, and they were incredibly helpful with quick questions if we had them. Beyond our stay in Sintra, they kindly shared many suggestions for our next stop in Lisbon, where they also have a home. But the house in Sintra! It's absolutely stunning, and so well designed. Our party of 5 (four adults, one toddler) was more than comfortable, and our daughter would have spent every minute of our stay in the playroom if we let her. The light on the property in the morning and late afternoon is magical as it slants through the pines on the property and if we weren't so intrigued by exploring the surrounding area I could have been completely content relaxing at the house and not leaving at all. I very much hope we're able to return for another stay soon, and highly recommend the Gil Vicente Residence as a home base for those planning a stay in Sintra.

We had a really wonderful stay at this residence. The house is very stunning in its modern minimalism but is set up with everything that a family with young children might need. The hosts were extremely welcoming and responsive. The recommendations from the hosts for various places like the grocery store, restaurants, local market and the beach were very helpful and we really enjoyed visiting all of these. Overall this residence, and the experience around it, exceeded our expectations and we highly recommend the rental.

We had a wonderful stay here, celebrating my husbands birthday with his parents, and our two boys (aged two and seven months). The property is beautiful and well equipped. We loved all of the natural light and open spaces (and blackout blinds in the bedrooms when needed!). The playroom was fantastic, and during down times, our two year old disappeared into his version of heaven, or played outside in the sand and pine cones. This made a HUGE difference to our ability to relax! Our crawler loved exploring the big spaces, and was slapping his way up and down the house (I would note, though, that the floors are hard. Our little guy is used to this, but maybe not everyone's cup of tea). Marta and her family were incredibly accommodating (for example, driving with us to a particular supermarket that we would have struggled to find otherwise), and her recommendations for the area invaluable. It allowed us to see things that I doubt we would have found otherwise, and we felt totally off the tourist trail (although it was August, our favorite beach- her recommendation- was populated, but not crowded). The area was very family friendly, and every restaurant we went to was equipped for small children. We wished we could have stayed longer!

This was our first time using the Kid & Coe service, and we were overwhelmed with how wonderful everything was for our family ! Sintra is a beautiful, simple place to visit ... and when renting a home here, you can't help but feel like a local. With two kids now, it was nice to have this spacious, clean, modern home to spread out in, plenty of toys for playing, and a nice kitchen with everything you need. We delighted in cooking most nights, after a few trips to the local grocery (one of the best ways to get to know any new town, I think), and Marta also gave wonderful recommendations of restaurants, most of which were on or nearby the beach. This home was VERY clean, a perfect place to bring a baby ... our daughter is 8 months old and is attempting to crawl. She loved the sleek concrete floors and scooted around so well. My 3 year old had a blast in the toy room, filled with games, a kitchen, cars, costumes, crafts ... and there is even a small outdoor space in the back to play with sand and mud and pinecones. Nature is the best playground after all. Marta and her family are so lovely and welcoming, and you can tell they care so much for your happiness. We look forward to visiting again.
