Perks for the Parents

A fun family studio in Castle Cary, Somerset with quirky interiors and a popular picturesque village within walking distance. It sleeps 6 + 2. This is a great spot for creative parents seeking an easy getaway. There’s a dedicated work space in the living area (and fast fiber WiFi) for those working from home, and the parents room is tucked away from the kids bedroom for a quiet night’s sleep. Gather the kids around the wood-burner for cozy winter nights or watch a film on the movie projector while you prepare family meals in the neighboring open plan kitchen. For date nights or easy family meals, head into the local village where you’ll find traditional pubs and kid-friendly eateries. Ask the hosts for local babysitter recommendations, private catering or housekeeping services to make your stay even more special.

Why Kids Love it

The space here is fun and safe, with a feature wall full of antique toys on display. The large table doubles as a full size table tennis table for family matches. You’ll find lots of books and games in the bookshelves and a hanging chair in the bunk room which kids will love. It’s 10 minutes’ walk to Fairfield playing fields and skate park, and there are tennis courts at the local leisure center. You’re likely to see matches being played on the lawns at Castle Cary Cricket Club during the summer months too (5 minutes’ walk). Somerset is known to be a popular location for family vacations: it’s just half an hour’s drive from Longleat safari park, where you can see jungle animals up close and enjoy rides and amusements.

About the Location

This residence is located at the top of Castle Cary High Street in Somerset. Known as one of the county’s most attractive market towns, Castle Cary has a weekly market on Tuesdays and a mix of independent stores, restaurants, dog-friendly pubs and other amenities. Architecture fans will love the historic period properties here, as well as other major landmarks nearby including Stourhead (National Trust), Glastonbury (home to the world-famous music festival) and Cadbury Castle (thought to be King Arthur’s Camelot). It’s 10 minutes’ drive from the popular Hauser & Wirth art gallery in Bruton, and 40 minutes from Stonehenge. This is a rural part of the UK with many walking routes nearby across farmland and through the picturesque countryside. Ask the hosts about golf, fishing, horseriding or water sports - all easily accessible a short drive away.

The tucked-away primary bedroom features a kingsize bed and the other 2 bedrooms are located at the other end of the house. There is a small patio area outside next to raised flower beds opposite a beautiful Ham Stone wall.

Style Notes

Eclectic studio. This historic building boasts lots of natural light thanks to the large windows and open plan layout. The stainless steel kitchen references the industrial architecture, while quirky features add color and creativity: a glass-framed display cabinet serves as a kitchen island while the dining table (and part-time table tennis table) has a striking turquoise frame. Reclaimed timber, exposed beams and rustic wood flooring add to the history and the modern art on the walls adds playfulness. We love the scaffolding-inspired metal bunk bed frame, the beautiful glass-paneled bathroom wall and the original sliding doors to the patio.
