What we love
- South African safaris are great for all ages. Some of the more open and tented camps have an age minimum of 8; please consult with the tour operator if you have any questions. They generally recommend age 6 and up, but have taken babies on safari before.
- Everything can be customized to suit your family’s needs - no request is too difficult.
- Safari lodges used on this itinerary offer specially-trained guides that run a range of kids activities. including cooking, frogging, small bush walks, and specially planned children’s game drives.
- Accommodation is hand-picked for family travelers and includes private villas and suites and villas in private nature reserves.
- Family-orientated accommodation options include 2-bed family suites with connected living areas, villas with many rooms and extra beds to add to master suites.
- Many lodges and accommodations in South Africa come with nanny services or highly qualified babysitters (for an additional fee).
Things to know
- Typically, all meals are included. Before departure, families complete a detailed summary of food likes, dislikes, allergies and so on, and parents can request specific drinks for the camp to have on hand. On arrival, the camp will be well briefed on your family’s preferences.

- All road transport, accommodation, private tours, safari fees and the services of professional English-speaking guides and staff are included in the rate.

South Africa, Africa
Wild and free
South Africa’s wildlife makes big kids out of all of us. With everything from lions, giraffes and leopards in the legendary safari parks, to free-range African penguins on Boulder’s Beach in Cape Town, there are endless delights for animal lovers. Cable car trips up Table Mountain, boat trips to Nelson Mandela’s prison on Robben Island and long lunches in local wineries round off a perfect travel destination for a family. Beyond Cape Town, the winelands and coast beckon, with dramatic scenery and safari camps to help create a picture-perfect family vacation.
