We are a big clan of seven siblings with 14 offspring, at least 42 cousins and 8 pooches. We spend time fall, winter and summer in our converted barn in Vermont, skiing, snowboarding, skating, swimming, kayaking, hiking, fishing, waterskiing, tubing, mountain biking, and cooking and reading lazily listening to the bullfrogs and crickets in summer or the crackling fire in winter. We spend weekends at our classic and comfortable beach house at the Jersey Shore, surfing and biking, golfing, and at the tennis courts, and having backyard parties with the many family members who still live in the idyllic small town and congregate for occasions of moment. We have traveled the world, lived in France and Morocco, London and Denmark, honeymooned in Thailand, anniversaried in Argentina, worked in Russia, Qatar, China, Mexico. The world's a fascinating place. But there's no place like home—right, Dorothy? That's why we keep coming back to these lodestones, our special paradise.

Spring Lake, New Jersey

Sandy beaches and sea water pools

An easy weekender destination from New York City, Philadelphia, Washington DC and more, Spring Lake is a Jersey Shore town with plenty of charm and charisma. Play on the 2 miles of white sand beaches, splash in the sea water pools at the North End pavilion, or take bikes and scooters and speed along the boardwalk. Jenkinson’s Aquarium on Point Pleasant Beach is a good option for a rainy day.
