Perks for the Parents

This light and airy beach front home in Sri Lanka is perched above the ocean, with a private pool and direct access to a sandy beach. It sleeps 6 adults + 4 kids. The villa overlooks a small bay with gorgeous southerly views across a surf break. It boasts an enticing turquoise salt-water pool which sits between the villa and the ocean, with an adjacent al fresco shower and private path leading down to the beach. Between mid-December and early April, there is a left-hand surf break that experienced surfers can paddle to from the beach gate. The rest of the year, parents can swim, sunbathe, work out in the home-gym or simply relax while the kids play in the pool.

Why Kids Love it

Children of all ages will love the fun bunk room that they can share with siblings or friends. The garden is enclosed with a playground area, badminton net and private pool for all-day swimming. For chill-out time, they can enjoy the pool table or table tennis for games inside the house, as well as TVs with satellite channels and a DVD player. The sandy beach is walkable and there’s options nearby for sailing, surfing and whale watching.

Things to Know

The pool is on the level below the house with steps leading from it down to the final level with the private beach gate. To enter the sea from here requires a 5 meter walk over rocks. The property is hosted by a professional management agency who can help with any concierge requests. Rates shown are for 4 adults (+6 children), the maximum number of guests is 6 adults and 4 children. Rates include on-site staff, cleaning and gardening supplies. Taxes and additional services are not included: ask the hosts if you require transportation, nannies, chef services, massage therapists, extra housekeeping or a private driver. The house has plenty of parking if required.

About the Location

This property is located in Kumbalgama on the south coast of Sri Lanka. It’s a short drive to Kumbalgama train and bus stops. Nearby Jungle Bay and Turtle Bay offer restaurants, watersports and a diving center. It’s just a few minutes’ drive to Weligama Fishermans Village Beach on Weligama Bay and the cultural city of Galle is 45 minutes away. For family days out, it’s 20 minutes inland to visit Sri Lanka’s Snake Farm for the kids or 2 hours to visit Uda Walawe National Park for Sri Lanka’s answer to safari. The international airport is 2.5 hours away.

Accommodation Details

The villa has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, all set over 1 floor. There are 2 lounge areas, with doors leading out to the terraces, and multiple eating and dining areas outside. Four of the bedrooms are in the main single-storey house, arranged around an inner courtyard (2 kingsize rooms, 1 twin room and 1 bunk room with 4 single beds). This courtyard can be closed at both ends making it an easy area for parents with young children. The fifth kingsize bedroom is set slightly apart in the garden. All bedrooms have air conditioning and overhead fans and fitted mosquito nets, with ensuite bathrooms with either a shower or bathtub.

Style Notes

Beachside luxury. The French owners have an easy going yet elegant style, which is reflected in the interiors with white-washed walls and Farrow & Ball green shutters. The décor mixes antique furniture, rich textiles and canopy beds with exposed polished cement, creating a contemporary feel. The open plan living room has stunning polished tiled floors and a high vaulted ceiling with elegant gray sofas where you can take in the impressive coastal views. We love the exposed timber ceilings in the bedrooms, the modern concrete bathrooms and the cozy use of natural wood materials.

A 30% deposit will be charged upon booking, the balance will be charged at 12 weeks before check in. See the cancellation policy for specifics on those terms.
Cancellation policy
For cancellations notified up to 12 weeks before the check in date, guests will receive a refund of any amount paid less 10% of the total cost of the booking. For cancellations notified at 12 weeks or less before the check in date, no refunds are given unless the host agrees. If a host does agree to a full or partial refund, this amount will be returned to the guest less 10% of the total cost of the booking. Some hosts will also allow a stay to be rescheduled. Guests should contact their host for further information regarding any request to change the dates of a stay. We strongly urge guests to consider travel insurance to help in the case of extenuating circumstances. Kid & Coe reserves the right to change these policies.
