This gorgeous ocean-side apartment has views of the Atlantic from both bedrooms and is walking distance to natural swimming pools. It sleeps 5. A little, traditional stone road separates the villa from the ocean but guests have a clean view of the sea, Lagoa's picturesque fishing port and natural swimming pools.

Why Kids Love it

Kids will love the proximity to the ocean and the natural swimming pools where they can splash all day long. Nowhere on the island is very far away – bathe in natural hot springs in a rainforest, check out the jaw-dropping volcanic crater lake of Lagoa do Fogo or cool off under the waterfall of Salto do Cabrito and Salto Do Prego. Kids will enjoy swimming, paddleboarding, hiking and, in season, whalewatching. Children's dinnerware and a highchair are included and a babysitter can be arranged. Toys and books are available for the apartment.

About the Location

Villa Sal is next to the ocean in the village of Lagoa, on Sao Miguel in the Portugese islands of The Azores. Known as Europe’s best-kept secret and in-between Portugal and the east coast of America, The Azores islands have verdant forests, rugged coastline and a subtropical climate. The local village of Logoa is picturesque with fish restaurants, a grocery store, supermarkets, a pharmacy and even a gym. Fly into João Paulo II Airport in Ponta Delgada, a 15-minute taxi ride. The guests will not find a more central place to stay, with all the amenities just walking distance.

Accommodation Details

This residence has 2 bedrooms with sea-views and 1 bathroom on 2 floors. It is part of an attached house with another one bedroom unit. There is a fully equipped kitchen and a dining table that seats 6. Next to the kitchen is a family bathroom with double sinks and a shower and there is 1 bedroom on this level with 2 twin beds, a sofabed (which can sleep 1 person) and a big window facing the sea. Upstairs are a living room and a master bedroom with a queen bed, both with balconies over the sea. A crib can be provided on request. Outside is a patio that wraps around the apartment with views of the ocean.

Style Notes

Tropical luxury. The rooms facing the ocean are a big appeal in this contemporary apartment so that you are either looking at the sea, or by crossing a small road, right next to it. There are big, living plants in stone pots in almost every room that sway in the breeze and the coffee tables are made from a single piece of hewn timber. We love the luxurious linens, the contemporary furniture, and the ocean-themed Portuguese artwork. The natural swimming pools, beautiful natural wonders of the island and many beaches make this destination a must-visit.

Passionate about the Azores, Mário and his family live between the Azores and Lisbon. We love spending time at the beach, surfing and building sandcastles.

The Azores, Portugal

Action and adventure in the mid Atlantic

This archipelago of 9 volcanic islands has been dubbed the Hawaii of the mid-Atlantic and is full of ways to stay active and enjoy the unique scenery. Sustainable tourism is at the heart of the travel industry here, and adventures begin with the ocean, where you can surf, swim, take boat rides, discover hidden beaches and see wild dolphins play in the waves. Inland, it’s like a geography lesson come to life, with mud pots, caverns and crater lakes to hike or horse ride to.

Completely perfect villa, everything you could need in the kitchen, gorgeous space in the bedrooms, an office space with a sea view. Just heaven. Mario always responsive eg: when we didn't realise oven had a child lock on it. The natural seawater pool formed from volcanic rocks is across the street and my favourite place I've ever swum. People are incredibly friendly in the Azores. If you're interested in Jewish history there's also a lot of interesting things to discover there.
