Get away from it all at this rural retreat in Sandisfield, Massachusetts, close to ski and hiking trails for outdoorsy vacations. It sleeps 7 +1. This home is ideally set up for kids, as the hosts have 2 young children: there’s a full kitchen and family-sized dining area as well as an open concept play area so you can keep an eye on kids while you cook and they play. Hike down the hill to relax in the hammocks and listen to the babbling brook, or spend your days on the nearby slopes in the winter season. At the end of a long day, parents can retreat to the renovated primary bedroom, with its ensuite bathroom and decadent soaking tub.

Why Kids Love it

The house has plenty of toys, books, games and art supplies available to keep kids entertained indoors. They’ll enjoy running around the generous flat lawn surrounding the property and relaxing in the hammocks, exploring the babbling brook, hiking nearby trails, or trying out all the outdoor sports on offer in the area. Within walking distance, there is a 24-acre swimming lake, a heated outdoor pool, 4 tennis courts, 2 pickleball courts, a ball field, a children’s playground, hiking trails and a picnic grove.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 2 nights. Safety notes: the cabin is safe, secure and ideal for families with young kids. Kids should not be left unattended near the babbling brook, down the path behind the house. There is space to park 3 cars and car rental is essential in this rural area. An outdoor deck with a dining table, patio lights, and a BBQ allows for dinner under the stars. There’s also an outdoor shower to enjoy in the warmer months.

About the Location

The house is centrally located in Sandisfield, in the Berkshires, Massachusetts. Walk out the front door to explore the area from hiking/walking trails within the Otis State Forest and the community. There is a brook behind the house and it's a 5 minute walk to a private lake and a heated pool (open in summer months). Year-round hiking and birding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing all take place on the trail system within the community. Visit the nearby ski slopes including Otis Ridge ski mountain, perfect for learning to ski (3 minutes’ drive), Butternut (20 minutes), Bousquet or Catamount Mountain (both 40 minutes). It’s perfectly situated close to all the cultural venues in the area (Tanglewood, Jacobs Pillow, The Mount and so much more). It’s around 2 hours from Boston, or 2.5 hours from New York City.

Accommodation Details

This residence has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, set over 2 floors. The main level boasts a fully stocked kitchen, which opens up to 2 living spaces and a dining area. This open floor plan allows for maximal family time and meals at home with a children’s play area and wood stove for snowy winter nights. The queensize bedroom is located on the main floor, along with a full bathroom with a shower/tub combo for kids bath times. The second bedroom has a set of bunk beds (single-over-double) suitable for kids or teens. The loft area is home to the primary bedroom, which boasts a kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom with a soaking tub and walk-in shower.

Modern cabin. This renovated home in the woods is fully immersed in natural surroundings. It’s showered in light thanks to the large windows, skylights and high ceilings, which frame the green and woodland scenery. Nature is brought inside with a design aesthetic of creams, greens, soft textures, and wood accents. We love the sleek contrasting modern bathrooms, the rich green hues of the kitchen cabinetry and the cozy, enveloping wooden paneling on the walls and ceilings.

Payment policy
When a host accepts your booking, we will automatically charge your card 30% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance if the check in date is more than 6 weeks away. We will send you a balance payment reminder at 6 weeks before check in and you will be required to submit your payment to finalise your reservation. If a host accepts your booking and the check in date is 6 weeks away or less, we will charge your card 100% of the total cost of the stay on acceptance.
Cancellation policy
For cancellations notified up to 6 weeks before the check in date, guests will receive a refund of any amount paid less 15% of the total cost of the booking. For cancellations notified at 6 weeks or less before the check in date, no refunds are given unless the host agrees. If a host does agree to a full or partial refund, this amount will be returned to the guest less 15% of the total cost of the booking. Some hosts will also allow a stay to be rescheduled. Guests should contact their host for further information regarding any request to change the dates of a stay.
