Perks for the Parents

An architect-designed townhouse in the heart of Amsterdam, with a separate garden house for grandparents or a nanny. Sleeps up to 8, but is beset suited to 1 family group. The hosts have two boys (aged 14 and 11) so it’s fully set up for older kids and teens - who would also love sharing the garden house if they need some space for parents. Parents will love the strong design influence here, with unique contemporary pieces, an easy modern layout and quirky built-in beds that have a hotel-style feel.

Why Kids Love it

The hosts have plenty of cuddly toys for children and a toddler high chair, as well as an epic kids room with a raised single bed and cool jungle print wallpaper. Outside, they can play in the safe, shady garden (a rarity in central Amsterdam) and there are heaps of playgrounds and soccer pitches nearby, as is typical throughout the city.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 5 nights. The host family have a super cute red cat, named Harry, so this home isn’t suitable for those with allergies. There is an open staircase which is not gated, but the hosts may be able to arrange a gate if requested. The double beds are 150cm wide, between a single and a double. Tram and bus stops are plentiful in this area so car rental is not required: the closest tram stop is 2 minutes walk for access to Central Station, the museum district and other wonderful parts of Amsterdam.

About the Location

The house is located in between the Jordaan district and the Oud West neighborhood. It’s centrally located, but not in the busy tourist area, with lots of very good restaurants, coffee shops and independent stores within 10 minutes’ walk. At one end of the street you’ll find the beautiful Westerpark, with the Vondelpark all the way at the other end. In between the two large parks you can visit the beautiful Nine Streets area, Anne Frank House, and walk along the picturesque canals.

Accommodation Details

The townhouse has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, set over 2 floors and with a separate 1-bedroom garden house. In the main house, the ground floor has a living room with a spacious corner sofa and TV. At the back of the house you’ll find the kitchen with breakfast bar and dining table for 10. This area leads straight out to the garden. Upstairs, there’s a spacious primary bedroom with a queensize bed (180cm) with an ensuite bathroom plus a family bathroom with a shower and bath for the children. The second bedroom has a double bed, while the children’s room has a raised single bed. There is an additional children's room with a double sofabed (180cm), and a guest room which can be set up as a nursery or an extra bedroom. A toddler bed is available on request. The garden room has a double bedroom, bathroom and its own kitchenette.

Style Notes

Urban sanctuary. The house was fully renovated in 2022 and designed by the architect owner. It's a very light and spacious house, with beautiful materials and designer furniture. The contemporary garden room is finished with plywood for a modern, minimalist look, which contrasts with the lush plants filling the garden. We love the subtle industrial touches in the kitchen, the mid-century furniture and the fun green and pink tones in the bathroom.

The Jordaan, Amsterdam

Amsterdam's most admired area

This jewel in the heart of central Amsterdam is all tiny streets checkered with shops and cafés, well-kept historical homes and beautiful canals. It is a short stroll from Anne Frank House and many of the central galleries, museums and attractions, and there are markets on Mondays and at the weekend. Don’t miss the Westerpark, which has a petting farm and swamp adventure land, or taking a tour of the city by boat.
