Perks for the Parents

This luxurious modern villa in a safe and quiet family neighborhood is surrounded by stunning scenery and close to Tromsø’s many cozy cafés and excellent restaurants. The home is set amid a bright green landscape with sea and mountain views and the opportunity to see spectacular Northern Lights during a winter stay. The well-equipped kitchen is perfect for family cooking and the open floor plan leaves room for gathering, play and privacy. Feel at home in the bedrooms designed for families and kids, complete with hanging gymnastics rings and an indoor tent.

Why Kids Love it

Whether you visit in summer (long light nights) or winter (northern lights), nature is the primary focus. Kids can hike the mountain behind the house, throw rocks into the ocean, or play on the large trampoline in the garden. Board games, DVDs, toys, books, PS3 and Apple TV amuses all ages. There are plenty of playgrounds close by, and the home is situated at the end of a quiet street with many other families and children. A stroller, 5 Stokke high chairs, a toddler bed and a travel crib are available.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 days. A no smoking and no pet policy applies. Stair gates are available upon request for the 2 sets of internal stairs. There is no fireplace guard; supervision is required for young children around the wood-burning fireplace. Parking available for 3 cars on property. A rental car is strongly recommended, but there is a bus stop close by for transportation to the airport and city center. Access to WiFi throughout.

About the Location

The villa is a 15 minute drive from the city center of Tromsø. Northern Norway’s largest city featured as one of Lonely Planet’s 'Best in Europe 2015' and is far above the Arctic Circle, offering mild summers and plenty of snow in the winter, thanks to the Gulf Stream. The residence is an 8-minute drive from the airport, 5-minute drive to Tromsø’s most popular supermarket with locally produced fish and meat, and about 10 minutes to the city's Arctic Cathedral.

Accommodation Details

The private garden includes a large balcony and barbecue, grassy lawn and hill and trampoline. Garage and driveway included.

Style Notes

Light and luxurious. The black roof and dark exterior of this contemporary Scandinavian villa surrounded by glass (a 'must-see' for architecture addicts) is a bold contrast to the oversized windows, white walls and light pinewood floors in the bright interior. Black Acapulco chairs greet you by the front door and indoor furnishings are a nice mix of modern and quality vintage items found at flea markets. We love the central wood burning fireplace, large oval table with mismatched kitchen chairs and cozy cowhide rug, deep sofas and sheepskin throws.

Beyond the arctic circle

Life beyond the Arctic Circle is a little different, with long light summers and dark winters underlining just how far north you are. Take advantage of them by playing on white sand beaches under the midnight sun in summer, watching northern lights in the sky from September to March, and trying all manner of arctic pursuits from whale watching trips and bearded seal spotting at Polaria, the city’s excellent aquarium, to dog sledding and reindeer petting just beyond the city.
