Perks for the Parents

This peaceful 18th century villa, tucked away in the Garfagnana Mountains, is a perfect retreat for a large family or 2 families travelling together with a saltwater pool and staff. It sleeps 10 + 1. This beautiful villa with panoramic views of rolling Tuscan hills has grounds with 300 olive trees, an al fresco dining area and inner courtyard that’s open to the stars. Local staff are there to provide you with a comfortable stay, including Maura who can whip up her legendary pizza and Tuscan specialties for you to enjoy al fresco with spectacular views of the 16th century hamlet of San Ramano below.

Why Kids Love it

Kids will love the huge pool for swimming and splashing and as it’s saltwater it’s kinder to young skin. There are 2 kid-friendly bedrooms – 1 with a bunkbed and 1 with 2 twin / single beds. The villa offers enough room for everyone to spread out with versatile accommodation and 3 separate entrances. The ground floor has a sliding partition and sofa bed, shower room and TV, which would make a great teenage den. Kids might enjoy cookery lessons from Maura, who can teach them how to make Italian pasta and bring fresh herbs, tomatoes and vegetables from the garden in the village.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights. Safety notes: there are drop-offs in the garden where young children should be supervised. There is no safety fence around the pool. Check in: 4pm to 8pm, check out: 10am. An additional mid-week light cleaning service is included. An Italian tourist tax of around €1.50 per person (12+ years) applies and is charged locally. The hosts aim to provide uninterrupted WiFi but reliability may be affected due to factors beyond their control. A complimentary crib and highchair are available. Car hire, child seats and booster seats are available for an additional charge on request. To pre-book family extras please call the hosts. The last 200 meters leading up to the villa after the entrance gate are along a very steep and narrow road. Due to the cooler temperatures, the swimming pool is closed from 30 September until the end of the season. There is air conditioning in all the bedrooms except the kids’ bunkbed room. Veronica, your English-speaking property manager lives in the village with her father Roberto, who takes care of the garden and swimming pool. Guests may also use the services of the housekeeper and Maura, the cook.

Style Notes

Dating to 1761, Casa al Colle is a rustic villa that has, over the centuries, become a welcoming summer house with large grounds and balconies boasting panoramic views you can get lost in. The interiors are large and rambling with wooden beams and white washed walls. Furniture is comfortable and traditional, offset by wooden floors or terracotta tiles. Bedrooms are simple with high quality linens and shutters to keep out the heat. We love the breathtaking views from every balcony and window, the saltwater pool and comfy sun loungers, and the outside dining area with views and fireflies that light up the night sky.
