Perks for the Parents

A creative and stylish contemporary house with a private garden in the leafy urban ‘village’ of Watergraafsmeer. It sleeps 5 + 4. Set over 3 floors, and designed with family living in mind, there’s plenty of space for all. The primary kingsize bedroom is set away from the kids’ sleeping quarters/ play space up on the second floor giving both parents and younger ones additional space and privacy. The modern open-plan kitchen area is fully equipped and comes with a wine climate cabinet and a Quooker (child-proof instant boiling water tap) for extra ease when dining in. The sunny, south facing garden is perfect for enjoying a BBQ in the summer or morning coffee in the sun. The streets around the residence are mainly car-free so the kids can play safely, and parents can relax. There are several playgrounds and excellent parks within walking distance as well a good selection of bars and restaurants. The hosts are happy to provide bikes on request and the local train station is just a 2-minute walk away with fast, frequent trains into the city center.

Why Kids Love it

Set in a relaxed, leafy area this residence is ideal for kids who enjoy laid back vibes and green space on their city adventure. Located in a peaceful, car-free street, kids can play safely all around the house which benefits from having back and front garden space. The neighborhood is very kid-friendly and there is a playground right in front of the house. A short walk further on, kids will find 3 of Amsterdam’s spacious parks (Oosterpark, Frankendael and Flevopark) all with playgrounds, sports fields and restaurants. Amsterdam’s famous Artis Zoo is just around the corner, where they host weekly concerts and organize educational activities for the kids. For laid back days at home there is more than enough play space with plenty of toys, books, dress-up clothes – and a TV. The second floor houses the 2 kids’ bedrooms which come with extra beds for sleepovers and desks/extra room to play. The hosts can provide a crib, highchair and baby toys on request.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights. Please note that there are 2 sets of stairs going up to the first and second floor and no stair gates so younger ones should be supervised. There is good WiFi throughout the residence and an office/study on the first floor for those who need to work. The residence comes with a private parking space (rare for the city) for those who need it, though public transport it excellent. The hosts are happy to lend bikes on request. Two additional toddler beds and a double sofa bed can be made up on request to accommodate extra guests. The kids who live in the house are currently 8 and 9 so most of the books and toys are geared for that age group but baby toys and games for younger ones can be provided; please let the hosts know at the time of booking. Sorry, no pets allowed and no-smoking inside the house.

Style Notes

Contemporary Amsterdam style. A bright and colorful residence full of Dutch and Scandinavian designer furniture and plenty of chic, modern touches. Cast concrete style flooring effortlessly combines with metro tiling, marble counter tops and oak cabinetry, finished off by handpicked art, travel keepsakes and vintage finds. Each room is painted in a different statement color adding warmth and character to every space. We love the huge Crittall style windows and doors which add modern loft style vibes alongside bags of natural light and views. The sunny patio garden is also a joy with space to sit out and unwind with a morning coffee while planning the day’s adventures.

With our family of 4 (Mette of 9yrs, Filippa of 8yrs, my wife An and myself) we live in the Watergraafsmeer/East part of Amsterdam. A village within a city, the best area in Amsterdam to be in with kids! We love to welcome guests from all over the world and will try to make sure you love Amsterdam as much as we do. Looking forward to have you as our guest!

Watergraafsmeer, Amsterdam

Vibrant, foodie and family-friendly

This area of east/central Amsterdam is vibrant, green and family friendly, with plenty of parks and playgrounds. It is near to Amsterdam Zoo, the ethnographic Tropenmuseum and plenty of local weekend markets. Nearby you’ll find canals, of course, along with the city’s science park, the Amstel train station and some wonderful restaurants, including De Kas and Dauphine.
