This gorgeous home is tailor-made for families looking for a rural escape. Gather round the outdoor bonfire pit for kids to enjoy S’mores, or relax after busy days on the mountains in front of the roaring fireplace. The wraparound porch means you can spend your days outside, whether it’s for morning coffee on the wicker furniture enjoying views of the lake, or sipping cocktails in the hot tub after the little ones go to bed.

Why Kids Love it

This is a fantastic home for kids, with quirky oak wood bunk beds (ideal for siblings, cousins or friends to share) and plenty of board games and books to enjoy, as well as heaps of outdoor space to run around. The hosts have 2 young kids under 10, so it’s well set-up for children and they’ll love trying out the piano or swimming in the pool all day long. (Kids floats are provided for extra protection). Active families will love the outdoor sports available at Hunter and Windham, such as snow tubing in winter or hiking and biking in summer.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 7 nights July through Labor Day. 2 nights rest of the year. Maximum stay: 180 nights. Maximum number of guests:10, unless otherwise approved. Safety notes: the pool is heated but not gated on all sides. The lake is not accessible to guests but there is no gate or fence between the water and the house, so young children should be supervised at all times outdoors. There is parking for 3-4 cars at the property and 4 wheel drive vehicles are recommended for the winter months. Pets are permitted on request at an additional cleaning charge of $250.

About the Location

The property is located in Jewett, 2.5 hours from New York City and 2 hours from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. There is a bus from NYC to Main Street in Windham town (15 minutes away by car) which also has a few stores and great restaurants, plus lots of great trails for mountain biking and hiking. Hunter mountain resort is also around 10 minutes’ drive, for world-class skiing and snowboarding in the winter season or a range of outdoor summer activities, including Kaatskill Flyer sky rides, 4x4 off-road adventures, ziplining and hiking. The closest international airports are in NYC (around 2.5 hours away).

Accommodation Details

This residence has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, set over 3 floors. Well set up for a family stay, it has a full kitchen (both indoors and outdoors, by the pool) as well as a family-sized dining area in an open plan layout. There’s a gorgeous spacious living room with a stone fireplace and doors leading out to the balcony, plus another living area on a mezzanine level above with a desk area and grand piano. Downstairs is a bunk room and queensize bedroom and a kids bedroom with 2 bunks (single over double). Upstairs, there’s a kingsize bedroom and a single bedroom. On the lowest level, leading out to the pool, is the 4th bedroom with an additional bunk bed and a sofabed. The family bathroom has a standalone bathtub and separate walk-in shower.

Charming cabin. This warm and inviting home features plenty of comforting, retro touches to create a cozy retreat. A perfect log home with vaulted ceilings and a stone fireplace to boot, it is very well decorated with a mix of traditional charm and modern luxury, and has been featured in WSJ Real Estate. We love the unique green painted woodwork, the arched window on the mezzanine level and the mountain-inspired artwork.

Small town charm, ski lodges and outdoor adventures

Windham is in the heart of the Catskills with all the area has to offer on the doorstep: pretty towns for vegetable stalls and antiquing, hiking trails, swimming holes, and fabulous ski resorts in the winter. A great weekender spot for active families, you can be mountain biking, playing golf, fly fishing and hiking wooded trails. It's not bad if you prefer shopping, cooking, browsing pretty boutiques and reading books in a lovely location either...

The home was lovely and clean except for the grill. It took 2 hours to clean and then like the whirlpool, it broke. The owner asked us to lie to the neighbors by not disclosing that we were renting because she was in a lawsuit with the HOA. She wanted us to use her family's used slippers. The refrigerator on the main floor was tiny and noisy. The one on the lower level was packed with the owners food. There were no darts for the dart board or ping ping balls for the table. The pool was great except for the fact that the covers track had sharp met edges sticking up. The owner misrepresented the property and was marginally responsive. NOTE 1: We brought this to the attention of Kid & Coe. They chose to do nothing because "we need to protect our clients". NOTE 2: This cost $10k. NOTE 3: Buyer beware!!!
