Perks for the Parents

A stunning designer farmhouse in Woodstock, NY with a 50ft swimming pool, 5.5-acre grounds and a ton of games, toys and sports & recreation for kids. The house sleeps 7. This historic house has been recently remodeled to create the perfect family vacation home. The house has 1 bedroom and ensuite bathroom downstairs, ideal for a nanny or grandparents, as well as a spectacular chef’s kitchen for cooking family meals (or it’s a short drive into Woodstock for family friendly eateries, if you don’t want to cook). For parents who like to work out, there’s lots of space to roll out your yoga mat, or the barn is equipped with the weights, rowing machine, spin bike, trampoline, bands and more. There’s also a gorgeous hike just up the street (Snake preserve) which is a great hill to walk up, or bike on if you're adventurous. Kids will be entertained with lots of board games, hundreds of books, and treasures to be found all over the property, so you can truly relax and enjoy this beautiful year-round destination.

Why Kids Love it

This is a house for a country adventure! Indoors there are toys, books, and a huge open layout to play. Kids will find art supplies in the garage and hundreds of board games and books to enjoy with the rest of the family. One of the coolest parts of the house is the secret hideaway off one of the children’s rooms, where they can play, escape from parents or relax under the fairy lights, fun pillows and cozy carpets. Outside there are 5.5 acres to explore, with a huge lawn for soccer, lacrosse, and baseball, plus a basketball hoop. In the barn are ping pong and foosball tables. Older kids and teens can check out the freshwater pond or toast marshmallows on the firepit, before exploring the hiking area in the back. It’s close to Belleayre mountain for skiing, snowboarding or tubing in Winter. While in Summer, they can splash on floats in the private pool or visit the natural waterfalls and swimming holes in the local area. There’s also great hikes, a farm sanctuary, playgrounds and nature reserves all within easy reach.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 5 nights over the summer months and all holidays. All other times: 3 nights. Maximum capacity is 7 and the hosts prefer to book to only one family at a time. Note that there are security cameras inside the home in various rooms, the system will be shut off during stays but the cameras will remain. Safety notes: the stairs are not gated so this house is probably not ideal for toddlers or babies - suitable for kids aged 5 and up - but the pool is fenced. There are 2 other structures on the property: a barn that is furnished, a great place to hang out after putting the kids to bed or for a family movie night. The other barn is a 2-car garage and a barn-style gym with an upstairs game room for ping pong and foosball. The area is rustic and you will see lots of animals (deer, groundhogs, chipmunks, frogs, etc). Please keep all doors closed so chipmunks can't run in! The property is sprayed for ticks and mosquitoes but families should always tick check. There is plenty of parking space outside and car rental is essential. Ask the hosts about at-home massages in the barn. Sorry - no pets.

About the Location

This residence is located just off Ohayo Mountain Road in Woodstock, upstate New York. It's a 2-hour drive from New York City and around 3 hours from the international airports. The property is extremely private and you feel a sense of calm as you drive up the driveway. It’s 5 minutes’ drive to the center of Woodstock and 30 minutes to the ski mountains. There’s a nearby farmhouse where you can buy eggs and visit cows, goats and chickens (2 houses away). There's so much to do in the wider area: bike or hike the Ashokan Rail Trail, roam around the Comeau property or visit Wilson State park for biking, scooting, fishing and boating. There are amazing eateries nearby (Sylvia's, Red Onion, Shindig, Cucina, Yum Yum and, of course, Bread Alone for breakfast). Experience live music at the Bearsville Theatre or the Colony, as well as other great places like The Pines. Hike one or all of the catskills. The host is happy to recommend other places to visit including Kingston, Rhinebeck, Hudson, Saugerties - all locations with great stores and restaurants.

There is a sunroom off of the kitchen with a couch and a stone table breakfast area with 4 rattan chairs. This floor also has a second shared bathroom with a shower.
Upstairs: 3 bedrooms (1 kingsize, 2 twins with a trundle bed, and 1 queensize bed) and a bathroom with a beautiful walk-in shower. Outside there is plenty of space to roam, as well as an outdoor shower, dining table (seating 10) and a fire pit off the patio outside the sunroom. The patio has a brand new outdoor sofa (seating 6-8) and 2 chairs for relaxing outside.

Style Notes

Built in 1774 (one of the first farmhouses in Woodstock) this home has been completely gutted and renovated in 2021 with the help of a NYC designer. The hosts have decorated the home to bring nature inside - most rooms have grass cloth wallpaper, the kitchen features tree-print wallpaper and the sunroom feels like a garden room with a floating couch. The house blends luxury with comfort: hardwood floors with super high pile designer rugs are perfect underfoot, there are 4 couches throughout the home plus cozy reading nooks with custom cushions, and there’s also a parlor room with the feel of a rustic modern library. Each bedroom has its own look: the children’s rooms are designed to make you feel like you’re outdoors - 1 has a mountain feel and the other looks like it’s set in the gardens - while the parents room is furnished like a 5-star hotel, with a post and beam bed and high-end décor. We love the wallpaper bathrooms with modern farmhouse finishing, the traditional wood paneled ceilings and the cozy window seat on the landing.

Woodstock, Catskills

Green, organic and free range

Head to the Catskills and Woodstock for an eco-friendly retreat: wooded hillsides, hiking trails, lakes, rivers and plenty of space to run, yell and play. Artists, writers and musicians have made this rural spot a colony for the arts - and there’s great home-baked food here too.

We had a wonderful holiday stay at the Yerry Hill Road Residence. The property is lovely and is very well situated just five minutes from town and very close to some great hikes. The house itself is warm and very comfortable with beautiful wallpaper and design accents. It has a nice open kitchen, lots of family spaces and special touches like a kids' hideawy. It's well set-up for a family stay and has lots of books and toys for kids aged 4-13 or so. Seems like it would be great all year round -- very cozy in the winter and near skiing, but also has a pool and a great yard for the summer. Stefani was very helpful with recommendations in the area and was quick to respond to any questions. I highly recommend this property and hope we can come back for another visit.
