Perks for the Parents

This serviced 4-bedroom chalet was designed by Zermatt’s acclaimed architect Heinz Julen and is available as a catered or self catered option. Created as Heinz Julen’s private home, it is full of the designer’s unique touches and is located high on a hill with spectacular views of Zermatt and the mountains, and easy access to the heart of the village. The catered option includes a gourmet chef and the services of a dedicated chalet host and concierge team. All wines, Champagnes and bar drinks are included in the half board service. There is also a private sauna. All guests have half price access between 1-5pm to the Genesis Spa of the Backstage Hotel. The property can be rented with The Heinz Julen Loft, in the same building, to sleep up to 14 guests.

Why Kids Love it

The mountain views, easy access to the slopes and snowman-building potential make this a great spot for those with kids. Due to the special nature of the furnishings and details in the apartment, it might be better for those with older children. Ski schools nearby take children from age 4 and there is babysitting available on request from the hosts of the property. Board games and DVDs are provided and a Wii can be made available on request. High chairs, cribs and children’s DVDs are provided. Toys, books and games can be provided for a fee.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 3 days. Prices listed are indicative - please contact the host to confirm catered/self catered rates. The chalet has a large LCD flatscreen TV with DVD and cable, a sound system, and free WiFi with a laptop/PC provided. It also has a washing machine and tumble dryer plus a laundry and dry cleaning service. Breakfast, afternoon tea, pre-dinner canapés, gourmet dinner and daily cleaning is included in the catered service. There is a wood fireplace in the living room. The property is set over 3 floors with internal stairs and elevators. Every bedroom has a TV and DVD player.

About the Location

The property is in the hills of Zermatt with views overlooking the village. It has mountain views and is 8 minutes to the ski lifts. It is a very central location. Access is via a 2-minute walk from the top of the Omnia Hotel lifts, for which you will have a private key. The village end of the lift delivers you to the heart of Zermatt, in the main street close to the church. International flights into Geneva or Zürich are the most convenient, connecting with rail services to reach Zermatt in 3-4 hours. Zermatt itself is a car-free zone with electric cars only; car hire is not necessary.

Accommodation Details

This 3-story 4-bedroom alpine chalet has large living room with 3 separate seating areas, a dining section, an open plan kitchen and 2 terraces. There are 2 bedrooms with ensuite shower rooms and a balcony on this level, the main floor. The top floor has a master bedroom with freestanding jacuzzi bath and separate shower room. The ground floor has a small double bedroom with ensuite shower room. There is also a private glass-fronted sauna, a gym room with a treadmill and 2 loungers on this lower level.

Style Notes

Modern luxury. This penthouse apartment, laid out over 3 floors, was designed by Heinz Julen and has featured in multiple design magazines. With concepts such as a fireplace nesting in the middle of the living-room window, and original hand-made furniture (including Julen's famous chandeliers and chairs), it has a unique sense of style. The glass rooves offer plenty of light and air along with a bird's nest view of the village and the Mischabel mountains. We love the architectural features, cowskin rugs and the jacuzzi bath in the master bedroom.

Zermatt, Swiss Alps

the mountain mecca

This famed mountaineering and skiing town has the longest winter ski season in Europe, running to early May, and nine of the ten highest mountains in Europe, including the pyramid-shape of the Matterhorn. The cobbled town is a car-free zone and connections to the closest slopes are easy, by electric taxi or horse-drawn sleigh. Ski schools nearby take kids from age 4.
