I never thought I’d say it, but city breaks are becoming my favorite kind of trip for our family vacations. What I originally thought would be stressful and tiring, is actually super convenient and really fun! I had visions of dragging the kids around museums and city sights, with them trailing behind, moaning about being bored. Instead, what I’ve found is that they love having lots to see and do, whether it’s child-friendly museums in Amsterdam, unique dining experiences in Lisbon or cultural events in London.
I also love the fact that everything is in your doorstep: all kinds of eateries, transport, playgrounds and more. In the past, we’ve struggled with the kids on ‘quiet’ vacation destinations – it didn’t feel as relaxing as promised after spending lots of long, argumentative trips in the car and hours searching online for the nearest pizza restaurant.
