Perks for the Parents

Retreat to this rural gem overlooking picturesque olive groves and vineyards, yet within easy reach of the city of Lecce and the beautiful beaches of Puglia, Italy. It sleeps 5. This unique property consists of an old water tower and a stable that was later converted into a chapel, now fully restored to function as a 2-bedroom family home. It’s surrounded by a lush garden with pergolas, palm trees and orange groves - there’s plenty of space for parents to relax and read a book while the kids run around the spacious and safe grounds. Ask the hosts for concierge requests including: private chef experiences, grocery shopping, cooking classes, transfers or a personal driver, art tours, wine tours, wine or cheese tastings, massages, yoga classes or babysitting.

Why Kids Love it

Children will love the outdoor spaces: the house sits on 20 acres of private land cultivated with olive trees, vineyards and citruses, with beautiful gardens, a vegetable garden and a chicken coup. The swimming pool is shallow and safe (although not gated) and there are shady spots to relax outside away from the glare of the sun. The sandy beaches of the east coast are less than half an hour away, usually accessed via ‘lido’ beach clubs offering relaxed food and drink during the summer months. Carrisiland Resort (a USA-style theme park with rides and a water park) is around 15 minutes’ drive for fun family days out.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: 4 nights in low season and 7 nights in peak seasons. A discount of 5% will be applied for rentals longer than one week; 10% discount for longer stays. Ask the host for adjusted quotes. The main building houses all of the rooms including one queensize bedroom with ensuite bathroom, which is upstairs. The second bedroom with a kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom is in a separate building 25 yard away. Safety notes: guests should be mindful that while overall the house is very safe and good for kids, the stairs to the second floor bedrooms are steep and partly without railings. The house can also be rented together with a neighboring property 200 yards away, Tenuta dell’Alto Residence, for an 8-bedroom compound. Rates include the exclusive use of the house for up to 4 people, gas, water, electricity, WiFi, bed linens, bath and hand towels, pool towels, toiletries and concierge service. It also includes final cleaning plus 1 midweek clean. Daily maid service is available at additional cost. The pool is usually warm and enjoyable between early May and early October (it is not heated). The outdoor space is private and not shared with Tenuta Dell Alto unless both properties are rented together, the driveway is shared.

About the Location

The residence is located 15 miles north of the baroque city of Lecce in Puglia, Italy. Puglia is known for its glorious Mediterranean climate, beautiful beaches, peaceful countryside and delicious food. There are banks, supermarkets, a market and lots of shops just 2km away. It’s within 40 minutes of the cities of Ostuni, Gallipoli, Otranto and many more beautiful towns in the Salento region. Bari airport is 1 hour 45 minutes away; Brindisi airport is just 25 minutes away. The highway connecting Puglia north to south is only 5 minutes away from the estate, making this location very convenient for exploring the region. Car rental is essential as there is very little public transport.

Accommodation Details

This property has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, set over 2 floors and 2 buildings. The main building houses all of the rooms including one queensize bedroom with ensuite bathroom, which is upstairs. The kitchen is very well organized and fully equipped with an oven, dishwasher, espresso machine, toaster, microwave and blender. The outdoor space is large and full of lounging areas including a gazebo dedicated to relaxing on hammocks, as well as an al fresco dining area and outdoor grill. The views are incredible and the pool is located inside a citrus grove.

Style Notes

Rustic meets minimalist. This beautiful rustic home is unique in its position, located on a ridge overlooking a valley full of vineyards and olive groves. The hosts have chosen natural textures such as seagrass and exposed wooden beams to reflect the rural surroundings. The decor is a blend of clean and sophisticated modern elements and furnishings, contrasted with vintage Puglian traditional objects and a touch of Moroccan influence, adding some vibrant colors. We love the outdoor swing-and-sofa area, the contemporary crittall-style doors and the contrasting rustic exposed stone walls.

Mark and I have been collecting homes in beautiful places since 2007 in Italy and Mexico. We buy them, fully restore them, and make them available to guests! We love doing this and sharing them and take great pride in doing so!

Lecce, Puglia

The most beautiful city in Puglia

Lecce, set south of Brindisi on the heel of Italy's boot, is the most beautiful city in Puglia, with honey-colored sandstone buildings, historic streets, baroque churches and wrought iron balconies filled with tumbling flowers. Wander streets in search of gelato, take trips to beaches on either coast and enjoy the quiet streets, history and wonderful food.
